5 Tips for Visiting Toronto's CN Tower

May 30, 2018

Get a bird’s-eye view of a world-class city -- with views up to 160 km away on a clear day -- with a visit to Toronto's CN Tower. The tallest freestanding structure in the Americas, this iconic tower stands 1,815 feet tall and is a can't-miss Toronto attraction. Plan your visit with this list of some of the most notable things to experience at the CN Tower:

It takes only 58 seconds to get from the base of the tower to the LookOut level, which stands 1,136 feet in the sky. Once you’re up there, you’ll get unparalleled 360-degree views of the city. On a clear day, you’ll be able to see all the way to Niagara Falls!

Visit the middle observation deck (1,122 feet high) and brave the 2.5-inch thick Glass Floor, where you can get a unique and terrifying view straight down. Visitors can run, jump, dance and even crawl on the floor without fear -- according to the CN Tower’s website, the floor is so sturdy that it can withstand the equivalent weight of 14 large hippos.

Dine at the Tower’s own 360 Restaurant, a rotating restaurant that completes a full revolution every 72 minutes. Sample a vintage bottle of wine from the world’s highest wine cellar. The restaurant is located 1,151 feet above ground and gives diners market-fresh cuisine and a magnificent city view.

For those with a higher budget who want to push their personal limits to the edge (literally and figuratively), the CN Tower EdgeWalk will give daredevils the thrill of a lifetime. The EdgeWalk takes place on the roof of the 360 restaurant. Thrill-seekers will walk along a 1.5-metre ledge that runs the circumference of the restaurant, over 800 feet above the tallest skyscraper in the city. The EdgeWalk package is available May-October and costs CA$195.

A recent addition to the CN Tower is the installation of LED Night Lighting that runs the length of the tower. Every evening, the tower lights up in an array of colours and patterns. The colours change according to important events happening in the city, national events (for example, on World AIDS Day on Dec. 1, the tower will light up in red) and the changing seasons. Click here for a complete lighting schedule.

The CN Tower observation levels are open 364 days a year (closed on Christmas Day) from 9 a.m. - 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and from 9 a.m. - 10:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Basic admission for adults for the Observation Experience is CA$35 per adult.
