Jamaica beach vacation travel guide for Canadians

Aug 23, 2022

Jamaica is one of Canadians' favourite beach destination, with average temperatures in December hovering in the balmy 26- to 29 degrees Celsius and stretches of beautiful beaches across the country. Most travellers to the birthplace of reggae fly into Montego Bay or Kingston, the two major airports in Jamaica.

Our deal experts are always on the lookout for great deals in Jamaica, from all-inclusive resort stays with flights from major Canadian gateways, to 5-star oceanview suites. We've often found great deals between $1200-$1500 per person per week, but we're always on the lookout to bring our members the best experiences possible.

Montego Bay

Home to the second largest airport and full of luxurious all-inclusive resorts, golf courses and a happening downtown area, Montego Bay is an ideal gateway destination to Jamaica. Visit Walter Fletcher Beach on a family vacation, or head to Rose Hall Beach with its plethora of beachfront resorts. For our golf aficionados, there are four famous golf courses in the region where you can tee off.

Negril

Visit Negril if you are looking for long, lazy days in the sun. The iconic Seven Mile Beach (which is actually four miles long) is a popular destination for Canadian travellers. Go snorkelling in Bloody Bay or chase waterfalls: some of the country's most famous cascades are a quick drive from Negril.

Travelzoo tip: Take in some of the most spectacular ocean views at Rick's Cafe, a must-visit destination located right on the cliff edge where you can watch the adventurous jump off the cliffs into the crystal-clear waters below.

Ocho Rios and Kingston

Ocho Rios is Jamaica's major port of call for cruise ships and is a popular town with numerous all-inclusive resorts. Be sure to visit James Bond Beach, where Ian Fleming reportedly wrote his novels or Mammee Bay Beach for stunning sunsets.

Jamaica's capital, Kingston, might not be a top beach destination, but  if you're looking for culture, it's worth checking out. Plan a visit to the capital and visit the Bob Marley Museum and the National Gallery of Jamaica, the largest and oldest public art gallery in the English-speaking Caribbean.

Travelzoo tip: Make a trip to the uninhibited paradise of Lime Cay. The tiny island disappears when the tide is high, but this little slice of paradise is just a 15-minute boat ride from Port Royal.

Port Antonio

Port Antonio, located in the northeastern coast of Jamaica, is a favorite of celebrities, with some of the finest white-sand beaches in Jamaica. Visit Frenchman's Cove, a picture perfect destination surrounded by tropical jungles and cliffs, or Winnifred Beach, one of the few public beaches on this coast.
