The gas oven in our first room would not stay lit even after Maintenance tried to fix it. We were able to move to another room (with the hassle of packing & unpacking again) the next day. The gas heating system (an in wall, fake fireplace) struggled to keep the unit warm (set to 68 degrees). There is a small electric wall heater in the bedroom but none in the bathroom so that stayed chilly.
There is no wi-fi anywhere on the property. We have T-Mobile and we had no cell service. We were told to drive about 1 1/2 - 2 miles up Hwy 1 to the Library and/or one of the restaurants in that area. Not very convenient. Don't remember if TravelZoo told us about that in the original offering. No TV in the room but we did know that so brought a board game, books & magazines.
The entire staff was exceptionally friendly and it is a perfect place to call home base while exploring the Big Sur area and coastline.

January in Big Sur: very lucky with the weather - sunny. Beautiful redwood forest and creek. We enjoyed several worthwhile hikes. Excellent meals at Nepenthe and Ventana Inn restaurants. This is a quiet and isolated area. Minimal if any wifi in Big Sur.

The Travelzoo rooms were the lower scale rooms, however comfortable and clean. Property is beautiful in the redwood forest and within the Pfeiffer State Park. Employees were welcoming. The most fully stocked gift shop I've ever seen. One oddity: no wifi (typically throughout Big Sur). In the event of an ER told to call 911 - can't do so w/out wifi. One "payphone" at back of lodge building.

Heater in the room did not work. The front desk gave us two small unit heaters that barely kept the room warm. However, the electricity went out since i guess their system couldn't handle the electric heaters.

The rooms were incredibly run down. They were clean, but you can tell the rooms haven’t been renovated or repaired in a very long time. Chipped paint everywhere, dirty crevices like the closet track, nooks in walls, and everything looked very old. For the price the rooms go for, it is not worth it. Even staying through TravelZoo, it was not worth it. The staff was subpar, looked like they didn’t want to be there. Food was okay, but not worth the price.

No wi-fi, even in the lodge. No microwave. No tv. One bedroom unit has no heat in the bedroom. Freezing. Paint peeling in the bathroom and looks like mold around the baseboards. Restaurant mediocre and overpriced.

We loved the lodge and the location was excellent. The cabins were nice and provided us with what we needed. They were pretty plain and lacking in ambience. But they were clean and all the basics were there.

In the intro when you published this offer I was excited to see Big Sur since I had driven by a few times without ever seeing it since I was driving. So this opportunity allowed see Big Sur firsthand and Big Sur certainly didn't disappoint however the lodging did. They need to warn people that there is spotty wi-fi service at best, there isn't a microwave or stove to warm up any food or have popcorn and we were in a suite (single room)! It's very rustic but so is every lodge cabins we saw in Big Sur but let your guests know prior to prepare for the visit. I would of brought our own board games to play while there . Loved the hikes we had while there and most of the employees were very friendly and informative if asked if you had questions, but had to ask about internet access which we drove to the local library and log in to their internet , things I just take for granted even when we go on a cruise. More information make easier preparation that makes your trips nice and easier.

Very comfortable accommodations in a heavenly setting. Our suite with two queens and a fireplace was ideal. We didn't really use any services other than that of the front desk. I would recommend hiking right in the vicinity of the lodge before going elsewhere. See the coastal redwoods first and walk in the forest in the carpet of needles and leaves. There is so much to do and see.

Front desk person was rude when trying to check in. I'm ok with having policies on check in time but there is no need to be rood about it. Breakfast was really bad. Packages guacamole on avocado toast (seriously) food was cold and did not taste good

The place is overpriced. The customer service ( front desk) has a lot of room for improvement.
It Supposed to be “fully equipped” kitchen. When I called front desk and asked to get a can opener the answer was” Go to the gift shop and buy one!”
Really?? No sorry for the inconvenience etc.
The faucet at the kitchen sink was so wobbly we were afraid it would fall off. The water was leaking to the sink cabinet obviously for a long time! We reported to the maintenance team. Nobody showed up to fix it.
Coffee maker was broken, although we got another one.

For the price the rooms were average at best… it was a bit cold while we were up there and the heater didn’t work and kept shutting off and needed maintenance to service it each time and the space heaters they provided overloaded the power grid and tripped the breaker… so there was no heat and no power for a small portion of our stay.
