My husband I spend the weekend in Ottawa at the Chateau Laurier - with a Gold level room which provided us with evening appetisers and a full buffet breakfast. The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The staff were knowledgeable, helpful and very friendly. We felt pampered! Of course the hotel is in downtown Ottawa, close to everything. We look forward to returning.

We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in a Fairmont Gold Room. The staff on this floor went above and beyond to make our stay very memorable. Since we were visiting in December, we had the pleasure of looking at the Trees of Hope and having some cockatils in the Elf Pub and Zoe's Lounge. It was absolutely spectacular! Just a note about the Elf Pub. If you want to enjoy a cocktail in the pub, you need to get inside before 10pm, which is when they stop taking guests. Instagram says that they are open until 11pm. Here's a note about parking. When we requested our vehicle from valet parking at 10:45 am, we were told it would be 20 minutes or so. Unfortunately our vehicle didn't arrive until 12:55pm. So it took over 2 hours for it to arrive. Despite waiting this long for our car, we had an amazing time at the Chateau and will come back again.

We found the check in service was unusually long for a hotel of higher standards.

Issue with dirty dishes and glasses from other rooms left in the corridor. We arrived at 4pm and when we returned back to our room at 10:30pm, the dishes were still on the floor in the hallway.

Excellent. Fairmont Gold is worth it if you're planning to buy breakfast at the hotel, but you do feel somewhat isolated from the rest of the guests she the hotel experience as a whole being up there.
