Costa Rica Hotels

Two reasons Costa Rica is known as “the Switzerland of Latin America”: it has no standing army, and it’s a freaking beautiful place. From the resort areas of the Central Pacific coast to the eco-paradise of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve to the reggae-inflected culture of the Caribbean coast, there is much to see and do. Relax in volcano-heated hot springs, go surfing in secluded Guanacaste Province, visit the sea turtle nesting grounds in Tortuguero National Park, and savor the recent culinary boom in San José’s Barrio Escalante neighborhood. There is greater tourist infrastructure on the Pacific coast, but only in certain areas -- others are quite secluded. And the Caribbean side offers its own charms, with boutique hotels and a distinct flavor. The dry season runs from December to April. As the locals say, ¡Pura vida!
