Upon check in, we were sent to a room with a Do Not Disturb sign on the door. Assuming the front desk knew which rooms were occupied, we used our key to open the door and found someone sleeping in the bed. We went back to the front desk to inform them and the second room they sent us to was right next to the very loud elevator. Upon requesting another room, we were told there were no other rooms available. I requested an upgrade for the inconveniences that were not our fault, and finally received an updated, clean room further from the elevator. We were uncomfortable throughout our stay that we would be the next ones that an unsuspecting guest would enter our room.
That night, we requested pillows to be sent to the room. After waiting 45 minutes, we called to check in on them because they had not arrived. After an additional few minutes, we did finally receive the pillows from housekeeping.
Additionally, the morning of our second day, we turned on the shower to find there was no hot water. After troubleshooting this several times, we called the front desk to be told this was a hotel-wide issue. There were no further updates, and we were left to see if the hot water would return when it worked for us. Thankfully, it was back the next day for a morning shower.
Overall, I did not find this hotel deserving of the Curio level for Hilton. The bathrooms were exceptionally small and I found service to be lacking.

Unfortunately, it seems that the Hilton Champlain has gone downhill since our visit in March of last year despite a number of supposed renovations that would make this hotel part of the Curio collection. During our stay last week, we were unable to regulate the temperature in the room which made it difficult to achieve a sound sleep. It seemed we were not the only ones with this problem as I overheard a woman complaining that they had an engineer come out to try and (unsuccessfully) remedy the problem. The woman was met with "I'm sorry you're unhappy with your room."
Aside from the climate control issues, we were especially disappointed by the quality of the pool facilities. For one, the entry pads were broken outside of both entry doors. We found out that the one door had (purposely?) been propped to allow entry. One of our friends stated that he did not notice the propped door and wound up going down to the front desk four times to have the keycards changed before another guest happened to see him and let him into the pool area. How the Hilton staff did not know that the entry pads did not work is beyond me... Unfortunately, it did not end there. A few short minutes later, we learned that they were out of clean pool towels. I ran down and the front desk called for one of the maids and promised they would be delivered shortly. Well, we waited over twenty minutes. During this time, more guests entered the pool area and also complained about the lack of towels. We overheard one guest say that he had also reached out to the front desk 45 minutes prior. Our friend wound up sending a text and the towels were finally delivered almost an hour after my initial request.

The hotel is beautiful and location you can't beat. The ONLY problem with the hotel is at the front desk. I was charged for 2 nights 2 rooms when I only booked 1 room for the two nights. Not sure how the error happened as I have the confirmation of booking and payment. When I confronted front desk they saw it was an error but have not refunded the money and can't until 7 - 10 business days. That's a tough pill to swallow around the holiday season of gift giving.

There was not an extra pillow or blanket in the room. They did not have many toiletries in the bathroom. No shower cap, no body and or hand cream, they gave me two packets for makeup removal that was not replenished for the second day. They also gave us a room on the third floor which did not have such a great view of the lake. There were trees blocking the view. The hotel didn't seem so busy. I am sure that they could have given us a room on a higher floor. When we checked in the young woman that helped us was very sweet but she had a heavy accent and it was hard to understand what she was saying.

Our first trip to Vermont and even though it wasn't peak foliage it was very beautiful over Lake Champlain and traveling to VT from Massachusetts. Location and service at hotel was great and our deal on Travelzoo was terrific. We paid extra to get a lake view room which I am glad we did and would do again. It was a nice touch being able to get decent coffee anytime on our floor with the little beverage area located on the floor. Breakfast choices were limited at the hotel but the quality seemed fine and the area of Lilly may's cafe was bright, comfortable and overlooked the lake. . However the hotel rooms themselves seem a little tired and could use some sprucing up. The colors in our room and hallway were very dark. Trim and doors were painted dark blue/black and were very chipped revealing white paint underneath. Housekeeping did a good job keeping the room clean and the king bed was fairly comfortable fortunately. We did however have a very enjoyable 2 days in the area.
Other Comments
Would like to see the hotel rooms and halls be brightened up. They were too dark and pain chipping on trim and doors was unappealing. We did like the two $10 vouchers we received upon arrival as well as the waived self parking fee that was part of our Travelzoo deal.

After a small miscommunication with my reservation that the front desk staff quickly resolved, I had a great 4-night stay at this hotel during peak foliage season. The hotel was sold out because of a large conference that was being held there, so I was lucky to get a room first of all, and the room rate was the icing on the cake. The location a block away from Lake Champlain was stellar, and I used a hotel bike to ride along the bike path on a gorgeous day. The close proximity to Church Street, College Street, and the city center’s shops and restaurants is another huge bonus. My room was clean and perfect for a solo traveler like myself, but it did show signs of wear and tear (chipped paint, etc.). I really appreciated the waived amenity fee and the free parking, and the housekeeping staff were amazing.
Other Comments
The beverage station on my floor never seemed to have working water taps, but I enjoyed the wide selection of teas and hot chocolate. The housekeeping staff replenished my room with two bottles of water every day, which kept me nice and hydrated. I would definitely return at a discounted rate and would also recommend this hotel to friends and family.

This was another excellent Travelzoo experience for us. There is nothing second-rate about your offers that we have taken advantage of. We had stayed at this hotel (under a different name) a number of years ago so were familiar with the location, which is absolutely perfect. We reserved a king lake view room but were upgraded upon check in. The view was stupendous. The room was clean and comfortable. Lots of pillows (a bonus for us). Front desk staff friendly and helpful (Savita was particularly gracious). Lobby area very spacious with comfortable seating. Hotel is located directly across the street from the waterfront park, walking paths, access to bike trail. Many nearby restaurants. A few sort of negative comments: if there's a "warning" on the website about the height of vehicles able to enter their garage, we missed it. Our pickup truck was a tad too high which involved a convoluted route to an alternative entrance which was apparently either under construction or blocked due to problems with lights indicating which lane to use to exit, so we couldn't enter the garage. When we did enter the garage, we parked in what was apparently an incorrect location and were given a ticket. HOWEVER, Savita took the ticket and said the hotel would take care of it.
The hotel features "beverage pantries" but appears to only provide coffee plus two unlabeled spigots that were ??water ?? seltzer. We didn't know and didn't try them. It was nice to have freshly brewed coffee available on the same floor however.
Despite at least two large groups attending meetings at the hotel, it was very quiet. We never heard voices outside our room, thundering footsteps from the room above (unlike a recent stay at a Sonesta in Massachusetts), nor any road noise from the main street directly in front of the hotel. It was a great stay!

We had a three night stay. The Hilton is across the street from Lake Champlain--a great location! The view from our "Lakeview" room on the second floor was mostly blocked by many trees but the staff arranged for a move to a higher floor and a wonderful view of the lake. The hotel offered a swimming pool, gym, snack area plus a restaurant, and even an area to play corn hole area. It also offers valet service and\or a public parking garage attached to the hotel.

I would not stay there unless I had a lake view room like we did. It was phenomenal. Bad stuff: One elevator wasn't working so it took forever to get anywhere; Lily May's Cafe is pricey for what you get and the menu is too odd for someone who just wants a basic breakfast; the restaurant is too noisy, seating uncomfortable, and entrees way too expensive given you have to pay $10 a piece extra for sides. Good stuff: Staff were all round pleasant; coffee was good; easy enough to get to parking and Church Street; room was comfortable.

You can’t call a room a lakeview if if just faces the direction of the lake. I was first assigned a second floor room on the lake side, but because of trees outside, you can’t actually see the lake. When I complained, I was given a true lakeview room and was happy to pay the extra money for it.

Nice location. Common areas and gathering spaces are nice. It seems like the redesign of the hotel was in the common areas and not the hotel rooms, which could benefit from an upgrade.

The check-in process was extremely difficult, the front desk agent could not find our reservation. She asked to see my confirmation, asked for the confirmation number multiple times, asked for the room rate. When checking out the next day, the same agent in charge did not allow the $10 voucher for breakfast/lunch. The agent said because we didn’t pay the resort fee, we are not allowed to use the voucher, even though I explained that the resort fee is waived. She said we have access to all the other amenities that the resort fee covers, except for the only one that we used which was for breakfast. She was very difficult to deal with. I have several upcoming reservations at this hotel and may consider cancelling if this is how Hotel Champlain treats guests traveling with TravelZoo reservations.
Of note, we have stayed at this hotel previously. My husband is a captain/pilot for United Airlines and the Hotel Champlain is where the crew stays in Burlington, VT. We had no issues previously, so it leads me to believe that the front desk staff are no trained on how to handle TravelZoo reservations.
Is there anything I can do in advance of my upcoming travel to avoid the same unsatisfactory customer service experience as I had this week?
