My husband and I have stayed in many Portland hotels and tried the Portland Regency for the first time with a great Travelzoo package. We were beyond impressed! The hotel is historic and in an amazing location - walkable to restaurants, shops, cafes and more. Our room was large and we were upgraded to a room with a lovely balcony where we could sit outside and even had a view of the water in the distance. The bathroom was amply sized and everything was incredibly clean throughout the entire hotel. Our bed was comfortable and the room was nicely appointed. Although the building is historical the guest rooms and common rooms are graciously updated and have all the amenities you could want. They get the balance of old and new just right. This is not a stodgy old hotel. Everyone from the valet to the front desk, housekeeping and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful. We had a tasty breakfast every morning as part of our package along with complimentary valet parking. Hotel guests have use of the spa facilities and we took advantage of the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. We highly recommend the Portland Regency and will definitely return!

We had a nice time. The hotel is very well located in the old port. Our only downside was that our room was right across from the ice machine. This wasn't really a problem as it didn't get much use in the late or early hours. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The travelzoo deal made it a very inexpensive stay.

Easy and satisfying check-in. As a Travelzoo customer, coming into the hotel with a discounted deal, I wasn't sure how I would be treated. As it turned out I was treated very well. We told the desk that we had an extra person with us and would pay the added fee for her to be added to our room. We were given an extra breakfast ticket for our 3rd person (no charge). Breakfast was all inclusive and was also a great experience, with good service and food. All in all the Travelzoo deal was a very good one and the hotel honored it well.

The entire experience was wonderful. We arrived 3 hours before normal checkin time but our room was ready. We were greeted with enthusiasm by the receptionist who mentioned that our room was special as she gave us a collection of cookies from Travelzoo to welcome us. The room was spacious with a comfortable lounge chair for reading and excellent lighting options -- by the reading seating, both sides of the bed, and overhead. The bed was also very comfortable, with lots of pillows, and the bathroom was huge, with a long granite counter where we could spread out our toiletries and a beautiful glass shower. There were two bureaus with 3 drawers each for our clothes, along with a built-in set of drawers that probably are more contemporaneous with the age of the building (Victorian). The entire room was spotless with everything that we needed and no extra knickknacks or fake art. Our room was on the third floor and the window looked out onto a side street where we could watch passersby. The elevator came immediately, no matter the time of day. All of the staff, from reception to valets to hotel restaurant hostess and servers were upbeat, pleasant, and responded to any requests. The vouchers for breakfast were really generous. There was no nickel-and-diming, we were given the same menus as other guests, and the breakfasts were excellent. Thank you, Travelzoo.
We spent a short time in the "bar" which is a beautiful room arranged with elegant and comfortable furnishings where it would be a great place to meet with friends and chat.
We had stayed here once before, in 2006, and don't know whether to attribute how great this stay was to the connection with Travelzoo or upgrading of hotel management and policies, but we will rave about our experience with both Travelzoo and the hotel to everyone we know.

Everyone who worked here was friendly and professional. We arrived on a stormy night and having the valet parking as part of our package was wonderful. They also offer a shuttle service, so kindly drove us to the event we were attending.
Our room was spacious and very clean and quiet. It was nice to have robes and, thanks to the bad weather, umbrellas. We enjoyed our drinks and snacks in the Armory Lounge and thought our breakfast (also part of the Travelzoo package) was above the usual hotel fare.
The location of the Regency can't be beat if visiting Portland. We will return.

Booked two rooms. One for my wife and I and the other for our son and his family. We saw a show at the Merrill auditorium and had dinner in the Old Port and it was a perfect location. Breakfast the next morning was outstanding. The hotel is beautiful and the staff was fantastic.

The hotel is very nice, the Admiltry bar is very nice, the breakfast service is pricey but good.
The renocation of the hotel is odd in one sense. The bathroom showers are large and lovely...no grab bar. The toilets are new but are the old fashioned and inconvenient low types...a poor choice with no real savings during renovation. This is why we would not return. The hotel has only one handicap room, also odd after a big renovation.

Our stay was amazing. The hotel was very upscale. The included breakfast was delicious and better than expected - homemade granola, real maple syrup, fresh fruit. The included valet parking was super fast and convenient. The location was in the middle of everything and we were able to walk everywhere including to the Merrill Auditorium where we were seeing a show. We will be back.

The Regency was very high end feeling. We felt very well taken care of and were greeted warmly whenever we returned. The room was meticulously clean and the bed was very comfortable.

My daughter and I stayed here as our overnight for a quick trip to Bar Harbor from Connecticut. Great location in Old Port. Valet Parking, Front Desk staff were attentive. Room was nice, spacious and quiet. Breakfast in the restaurant was very good, our server John was excellent. Plan on returning for a weekend with my husband.

The hotel was lovely and the staff was more than accommodating to our needs. It is close to other restaurants and a short walk from the dock areas, so we did not need our car. I would recommend this adventure highly.

Stayed for one night the hotel is a 4-star hotel. The only downside was the first room they put us in. It was on the ground level, and it smelled musty. When you looked out you saw people walking by on the sidewalk. However, we were quickly moved to an upper-level room which was beautiful, clean and had a balcony. We ate at the armory bar the drinks and food were excellent. For a night cap we sat at the whiskey bar and got a great education in bourbon, whiskey and scotch. Definitely recommend staying here and will do so in the future.

I saw another review that complained about being on the ground floor. My only suggestion is to not stay on the ground floor if it can be avoided.

My daughter and I had a girls weekend in Portland and stayed at the Regency. She had previously stayed there with her husband and loved it, but I had never been. Everything about our stay, especially the value of the Travel Zoo experience was awesome! The included breakfast was delicious, great spa, nice room!

Visited Portland, Maine for a few days. The hotel is beautiful and the ambiance was great. The location of the hotel was awesome. We walked all around town on the cobblestone streets. The service and employees were excellent. There was a little issue with the valet unable to drive my car because it is a stick shift, but they more than compensated for the inconvenience.

Valet parking in the Old Port had clinched the deal for me, but the ambiance was an unexpected bonus. Would have liked a writing/table in the room - the only drawback, but a biggish one. Breakfast tea selection served in a proper pot: rare these days and such a pleasure.

Room was dated (ex stains on the rug, lumpy pillows). Heat/cooling didn’t “exactly” work. I don’t think the hotel is ADA accessible. The toilet was so low to the ground, would be very challenging for someone with mobility issues!

We had a wonderful visit. The hotel was beautiful and the free breakfast was an incredible perk. The bed was squeaky and not especially comfortable but the room was beautiful.

My only suggestion would be to allow the option to pay the breakfast overage at the time of service. We had an overage and they tacked it onto our room bill, which then went on our credit card. I prefer to pay at the time using my debit.

My dad, daughter and I had the most enjoyable experience at this hotel. From check-in, valet, to the spa services, we were greeted by friendly and courteous staff members. We will definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel. The breakfast in the 1895 restaurant was superb!
