We were very impressed with the hotel and staff. Our room was very comfortable and we had plenty of space. Our wine and truffles were excellent as was the buffet breakfast the following morning.

We feel that we were given the "travelzoo room". Lowest floor by the stairwell. Very noisy. Toilet did not flush. Fridge was leaking. Smoke detector went off our last night in the early morning hours. Our view was of a brick wall. But great location and our first time out without kids so we really did not make a fuss about it.

Swamp Fox restaurant food and service were very good. Very good supper, server Andrew is excellent. Breakfast buffet was sumptuous, Christina is also excellent.
Special shoutout for Karen in Housekeeping who is VERY helpful and considerate. I want her every time.

Although the staff / service was good for the most part, the person on duty at check-in did not offer our vouchers and other amenities until asked, When asked, they had to check with a supervisor to find out what to do. At the restaurant, we ere told by the hostess that the vouchers were for the buffet. The buffet had a good selection and the excellent wait staff did offer to bring us coffee and juice.

It is in an excellent location. It does offer that old world charm and the staff is excellent. The parking is easy with the garage right next door. Valet parking is also available. Overall the room could use some freshening.

Bathrooms are on the older, smaller side it consistent with the age of the hotel. Rooms have coffee maker and refrigerator. Starbucks is in the building for those who want a fancier coffee.

We met friends at hotel who we met while cruising. It was our first trip together since meeting on board. The hotel was a grand old hotel and the staff was exceptional from the desk to waitresses to bellmen Concierge help was excellent with their advice. We enjoyed our daily breakfast buffet as well as other meals. The afternoon cookies and infused water provided a treat after a day of sightseeing. It was a well maintained and clean hotel.

My wife and I love to visit Charleston for its culture, history and restaurants. We have stayed at several hotels in the historic district and return to the Francis Marion again and again for its location and old world style. Anytime we see a stay there offered through Travelzoo we try to get down.

The Francs Marion Restaurant, the Swamp Fox, is part of the Travelzoo offering with breakfast each day during the stay. My wife and I keep saying we need to have dinner there but with so many other fine dining opportunities available, if is difficult to do. If we did, it would be because of one of the staff at the Swamp Fox. Her name is Sylvie and she is just the most delightful person. My wife is a French teacher and Sylvie is French Canadian. Rarely does my wife get to have extended conversations in her ado[ted language and Sylvie indulges her. I can't imagine eating there and NOT having Sylvie wait on our table.

We were there when Debby hit. The staff was so helpful and accommodating in the face of uncertain weather conditions. I felt like they were helpful and concerned. Additionally, while getting a spa treatment, I overheard two staff members having a conversation with the gift shop attendant. They were wanting to buy a gift for the child of guests who’d lost their infant. Apparently the hotel provided a fox for the child but she’d lost her doll and this staff member wanted to buy something else-with her own money- to the child. It was incredibly empathetic and kind. I also witnessed a staff meeting and everyone seemed to enjoy each others company- not stuff like they could be but amicable. Great people working here!

This was our first visit to Charleston. The hotel was lovely. Our room was comfortable. The location of the hotel was perfect for walking down King Street and doing a little window shopping. The hotel itself is very nice however the bathrooms are very old. I’m sure it’s all about the charm but if you were a big person this bathroom is not for you. Extremely small and low.That is my only complaint. From the minute you pull up the staff inside and out we’re right there to help with whatever you need. The breakfast buffet was included with our stay and was more than enough. Wait staff were pleasant and always ready with more coffee. The chocolates and bottle of wine were delicious and a lovely touch, we enjoyed both! We will be back.

Loved the historic feel of the hotel. It was beautiful. Staff friendly and attentive. Offered a Spa on-site which I didn't use. Also fitness room. No pool. Location was great. Many places to walk to. Nice park across from hotel. Used valet parking which worked out well for in & outs. Starbucks on site & we did have the buffet breakfast which offered plenty of options and the staff was very kind. The only thing to note was bathrooms very small. Was not a deal breaker for me just a note. We had 2 deluxe 2 bed rooms on 4th floor. The rooms themselves were very spacious. Would recommend a stay here while you are visiting Charleston.

The room, specifically the bathroom was tiny. The bathroom was tiny - not much bigger than those in airplanes. The door to the tiny bathroom was practically on top of the bed. You couldn't even open the door properly - it hit the bed. The lock on the bathroom door was broken and the door did not lock.

The heater in the room was NOT working. They did send someone to look at it, but he couldn't get it working. It was a cold dreary day and we came back soaked from a day of touring and walking and wanted the heat to dry off our clothes!

Brief vacation over Christmas. Hotel and parking easy to find and the location was great for walking. Also very easy to navigate the drives to Sullivan's Island and to Foley Beach - both much closer than I thought.

Overall, a good experience. We did not receive our wine and truffles. I was told at check in that they would be delivered later. By around 10:00 pm they had not been delivered. I called the front desk and was told they had attempted to deliver, but there was a Do Not Disturb sign on our door. They left no notice about attempted delivery, so I’m not sure it was attempted. At my request, they agreed to deliver at that time. They stated they were out of truffles. I agreed to a VIP box. That was delivered, with no bottle of wine. I called the front desk, again, and it was eventually delivered.

The package was very easy to book through Travelzoo. The hotel is well located and the free bus stops just across the street. The wine and chocolates were delivered to our room shortly after we checked in. The bathroom is quite compact, but to be expected in a 100 year old hotel. We loved the complimentary breakfast each morning and the hotel staff were all helpful and friendly. We would highly recommend it.

We loved the winter special we took advantage of - great bottle of wine and chocolate truffles. We also had breakfast at the Swamp Fox. The waitstaff and hostess were so personable - you have a great team. And the front desk staff were very helpful and accommodating.

We loved our stay. The hotel is old school elegant and has beautiful common areas to sit and relax. Sometimes there is live piano music and fresh hot cookies! The room we were in was unusual with two small full bathrooms. The beds were very comfortable. . Food and drinks at the swamp fox Lou ge were reasonably priced and very good. Piano player was there too and the bartender worked harder than any bartender around.

Parking in the next door city lot is $18 a day but the day ends at midnight so you end up paying almost double that for one night. Great hotel location near the pier, the battery and market.

I really do like staying here and have stayed here multiple times and love the extras you get with Travelzoo. The only issue i had this time was there was stuff in the fridge that wasn't suppose to be there. I told them after we left and sent a picture. They apologized. It was just water that wasn't there's. It was just a little creepy cause then you think what else didn't get done with the room. We will defiantly be going back to Charleston and do like everything else about this hotel

The hotel was excellent. The best experience was great service by a French speaking waitress from Canada who was extremely helpful. Everything was great except the bathroom was small but this did not detract from the overall experience. The bellman was very nice. The desk staff were very pleasant. The overall facilities were super. We greatly enjoyed the experience and will return to stay there.

Hotel is old and needs updating. Parking was very expensive. Lobby wasn’t very nice and closed to guests because of group gatherings? Really! Beds were small and uncomfortable. Toilet wasn’t working good and it had the tiniest bathroom I have ever seen in a hotel. Location was excellent for what we wanted to do. Breakfast was good. Dinner was expensive and just okay. Housekeeping was very good and done daily. There are a lot nicer places to stay in Charleston

Our visit was brief, but wonderful. The hotel is a trip into the past, when the pace of life was slower, when travel was an adventure, not a slog. The service at the hotel was outstanding. Everyone we interacted with, from the doorman to the front desk to the waitress, was warm and friendly. They each, in their own way, made us feel welcome. So rare these days. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

The Christmas ambiance added to the visit. The staff was pleasant and helpful. it was close to everything we wanted to do. We visited for some time away and had no agenda, so just being able to relax and enjoy the hotel was wonderful. We met a pleasant and wonderful employee, Sylvi, who worked in the Swamp Fox hotel restaurant. It was a joy to meet someone who wakes up everyday enjoying her day and making others feel welcomed. This is a grand older hotel uptown from the market area, but easily walkable. Wonderful staff, a great bar with a piano player several evenings each week. This hotel will appeal more to adults than millennials and Gen-Z - it just barely tips its hat to technology, but goes for comfort.

This hotel is in a good location. The building and lobby are charming. Staff and valet were helpful. We were first given a room on 4/F at check-in. It was a dark room that looked out right to the roof top of next building. We then requested to change to another room and were given one at higher floor (6/F) that has a more open view. Perhaps this is an old building, at night we could hear the voice of the gentleman in the room next to us. One highlight is a server at the Swamp Fox restaurant named Sylvie. She is super nice and made our breakfast experience very enjoyable.
