8 reasons your winter holiday should be in Whistler
Snow in the UK is hard to come by, let alone the plethora of activities and festivities that come along with it. Luckily, it's simpler (and more affordable) than you might think to get away to a snowy paradise. We’ve discovered the top eight reasons to try something new this winter with a trip to Whistler, Canada’s outdoor playground.
1. It's easy to get to Whistler
Many airlines, including Air Canada and British Airways, offer direct flights from London to Vancouver. From there, Whistler is a short two-hour trip from the airport. Take the convenient Whistler shuttle right from the airport or rent a car and get there on your own. No matter what, the views out of your window on the Sea to Sky Highway will be breathtaking.

2. There are options for all ages and ability levels
Two mountains, more than 200 pistes, 37 lifts, five terrain parks and over 8100 acres of skiable area are just some of the many reasons skiers and snowboarders flock to Whistler year after year.
Adrenaline junkies can get their fix on some of the most challenging double black diamonds in the world, or test out their tricks in the terrain parks. Both mountains also offer many mellow green and blue pistes for those still finding their groove. With unrivalled terrain and tons of room to roam, you may not even try the same piste twice.
Whistler Blackcomb offers lessons for all abilities and ages, from one-on-one instruction to kids’ ski school. To top it off, you’ll see more and do more on the mountain by skipping the lift line, an added perk for all students.

3. The season is long
Winter in Whistler is one of the longest in North America, with ski season lasting from November to May. Enjoy the powder and save up to 65% on Whistler Blackcomb Day Passes, plus up to 40% on ski and snowboard rentals when you book by 15 November.
You’re spoilt for choice of when to visit, but booking early means big savings. Maximize your Whistler adventure by saving up to 30% on rooms. Stay seven nights or longer and receive a $175 CAD Whistler.com Gift Certificate.

4. Snow conditions are superior
Whistler’s high elevation and cold climate provide reliable snow all season, with an average of over 11 metres of snow a year. This year will be extra special thanks to La Niña, a weather phenomenon that only happens every few years, the most recent being 2020. Due to unusually cold waters in the tropical Pacific Ocean, experts are predicting even more snowfall than average.
On days when Mother Nature has other plans, however, there is extensive snowmaking infrastructure in place to keep the pistes in top-notch condition.

5. It’s more than just a skier’s paradise
For those seeking adventure minus the incline, Whistler boasts an extensive network of pristine cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails to explore. For bigger thrills, there’s snowmobiling, bobsledding, bungee jumping, and ziplining. Or, embark on a Whistler dog-sledding tour, a one-of-a-kind Canadian experience.
Looking for something a bit more relaxed? Try ice fishing or skating. Even the short stroll from the spa to a village boutique could be considered an outdoor activity. The newest attraction is the immersive light show, Vallea Lumina. It is open year-round in the forest of Cougar Mountain. Non-skiing activities are up to 20% off when you book early at Whistler.com.
Of course, no visit to Whistler is complete without a ride on the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola. It is a three-time world record holder, including “longest unsupported span between two cable car towers,” “highest cable car above ground,” and “longest continuous lift system in the world.” Catch unparalleled sights of B.C’s natural beauty from 436 metres in the air.

6. There’s no need to choose between adventure and rest
No matter how active you are, a true holiday calls for some relaxation time, and Whistler lets you experience both. There are several outstanding spas and sanctuaries, including the Spa at Four Seasons Resort Whistler, where its signature treatment features a scrub made with Canadian maple syrup.
There are plenty of walking trails ideal for connecting with nature—simply breathing in the mountain air is a wonderful way to wind down. Or, invigorate your body and mind with a Thermal Experience at the indoor-outdoor Scandinave Spa.

7. Whistler's pedestrian-only village is at your doorstep
Hotels, spas, art galleries, boutiques, casual eateries, and fine-dining spots dot the car-free stone walkways of Whistler Village. Plus, Après-ski couldn’t be more convenient with multiple bars and restaurants waiting to serve you slopeside. Ski right into the village and get warm inside, or chill on a patio facing the mountains.
When you need a break from the slopes and the food, view B.C. art dating back to the 18th century at Audain Art Museum. Then check out the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, a gallery and museum showcasing West Coast Indigenous art, culture, and historical artifacts.

8. Canada has a very favourable exchange rate
UK residents have a leg up with a strong exchange rate—you can get almost twice as much for your pound in Whistler. Go all out on food, craft beers, cocktails, and coffee in the village without breaking the bank. Take the opportunity to shop for some new gear, or pick some quintessential Canadian souvenirs to commemorate what is bound to be a truly memorable winter getaway.
