Itinerary
Spend the first two nights in a hotel by the thundering Niagara Falls. Go on a tour included, both the Canadian and American sides of the fall. Afterwards, you'll ride in business class on the Maple Leaf train from Niagara Falls to New York. Two further nights will be spent exploring the city that never sleeps.  

Then, board Norwegian Getaway for a week-long cruise, calling at:

• Newport, Rhode Island... is known for the Gilded Age mansions that line Bellevue Avenue, many of which are now museums. Its seafood restaurants and art galleries are also highlights.
• Portland, Maine... a place packed with plenty of "humble, off-beat charms" (Lonely Planet). Take time out to people-watch at the historic, Old Port waterfront. Sample local seafood specialities like Maine lobster. There are a handful of microbreweries dotted around the city and the coffee is good here.
• Bar Harbour, Maine... is the gateway port to Acadia National Park, which covers most of Mount Desert Island. The only national park in New England, it offers "unrivaled coastal beauty" (Lonely Planet).
• Saint John, New Brunswick... this Canadian city is known for the Reversing Rapids, a phenomenon caused by bay tides colliding with the Saint John River. Check out the food and craft stalls at Saint John City Market, or visit the Irving Nature Park.
• Halifax, Canada... book an optional tour to Peggy's Cove, famous for its picturesque lighthouse. Then, explore Halifax's bustling waterfront and nautical museums.

Finally, sail back to New York and arrange a transfer back to the airport for your flight home.

Norwegian Getaway offers an "abundance of dining and entertainment options", according to Cruise Critic. The vessel cleverly maximises outdoor space. Its quarter-mile oceanfront promenade is inspired by Miami's South Beach. There's a large pool with five waterslides, and 25 dining venues. You can watch a show at the Art-Deco inspired theatre, or the comedy club.
