Itinerary
Your holiday will start with two nights in Naples, the original home of pizza. As part of your package, you'll go on a tour along the Amalfi Coast. You could sip Italian coffee in towns favoured by the international jet-set.
Next, hope on a train to the capital, Rome. You'll spend a further two pre-cruise nights in the 'Eternal City'. Throw a coin the Trevi Fountain, or watch the world go by as you rest on the Spanish Steps. The immense art collection at the Vatican Museum is also worth a visit.
A convenient transfer will whisk you to the cruise port on day five. Embark MSC Grandiosa for a week's Mediterranean voyage, calling at:
- Palermo… the capital of Sicily has been a crossroads for civilizations for over a millennia. Soak up the high-octane energy as you explore souk-like markets and Baroque cathedrals.
- Ibiza… visit the UNESCO-listed Old Town, or join an island excursion to see charming villages in the mountainous interior.
- Valencia… is often referred to as the "city of paella". See elegant Art Nouveau buildings lining leafy boulevards in this sun-soaked town.
- Marseille… France's second city is an underrated gem, with catch-of-the-day seafood and blazing orange sunsets.
- Genoa… this beautiful city on the Italian Riviera is great to explore on foot—lose yourself in its Renaissance, Baroque and gothic architecture, and colourfully painted streets.
The cruise concludes in Civitavecchia, and you'll take a UK-bound flight from Rome.
About the ship
MSC Grandiosa was christened by the Italian movie star, Sophia Loren. It is the largest ship of the cruise line's fleet, and has a plethora of facilities. At the heart of this floating resort is an 111-metre-long indoor promenade. It is lined with shops and restaurants, and and covered by a 93-metre digital LED screen. Images are projected onto the ceiling 24 hours a day, and when the sun sets it transforms into a hub of nightlife.
There are 10 restaurants and 21 bars on board, including L'Atelier Restaurant (supplements apply), which features original works of art by the French Impressionist painter Edgar Degas. Other facilities include a plush spa, a casino, a 4D cinema, and a Broadway-style theatre.
