Itinerary
Spend a night near Reykjavik airport, then board SH Vega the next morning. Highlights of this sailing include:
- Scoresbysund... the largest fjord network in the world is full of huge icebergs. Keep an eye out for mountain hares, muskoxen, snowy owls, and Arctic foxes.
- Ittoqqortoormiit... due to thick ice, this wooden village is only accessible for three months each year. You'll get a rare glimpse into the traditional Inuit lifestyle.
- Kong Oscar Fjord... these towering mountains were once part of the seabed. The colourful layers of Berzelius Bjerg show geological shifts over 700 million years.
- Ísafjörður... is a bustling fishing town in northwest Iceland. It is the gateway to the Westfjords, the dramatic setting of many Old Norse sagas.
- Vigur... is a tiny island famous for its birdlife. Arctic terns, puffins, guillemots, and eider ducks nest on rocky cliffs surrounded by sea mists.
- Dynjandi waterfall... is one of the natural gems of the Westfjords. It is around 15 minutes' walk inland, and you'll pass by five smaller waterfalls on the way.
