About the show
For decades, people have flocked to see Victor Hugo's classic story come to life on stage. "Les Misérables" opened at the Barbican Theatre in London on 8 October, 1985. Delighting audiences since then, it holds the crown as the West End's longest-running musical. Set in early 19th-century France, it tells the story of the life of Jean Valjean. Condemned for stealing bread, he turns his life around after a bishop shows him kindness. Despite changing his ways, Valjean is hunted by Javert for breaking his parole. His life on the run leads him into the perils of the June 1832 Rebellion. He finds himself in Paris, where a group of students prepare for revolution.
The show has been produced in 42 countries and translated into 21 languages. It has also been the recipient of numerous Laurence Olivier and Tony Awards. Hear all its best-known hits, including "One Day More", and the iconic "I Dreamed A Dream".
