Itinerary
- UK to Porto to Santo Tirso... transfer to your hotel in Santo Tirso.
- Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia... return to Porto for a guided tour. Wander through Old Porto's winding streets and admire the ornate cathedral. Explore the Ribeira—this UNESCO-listed quarter boasts cobbled alleyways and historic townhouses. Next, cross the river to reach Vila Nova de Gaia. Visit a port wine cellar.
- Amarante, Lamego, and Tabuaço... journey inland to the heart of the Douro Region. Stop at the Quinta da Aveleda wine estate and Amarante, a Medieval town. Continue to the picturesque town of Lamego, which dates from Roman times. See its Moorish castle, Gothic cathedral, and Renaissance villas. Travel onwards to your hotel in Tabuaço.
- Douro River cruise and Pinhão... after a morning to yourself, travel to pretty Pinhão for a cruise along the Douro River. Sip wine as you cruise past rolling vineyards and pine forests. You'll also stop at the Quinta de São Luiz estate to sample fine wines.
- Régua, Pocinho, and Carvalhal... board a train in Régua for a day spent travelling through the Douro Valley. Admire terraced vineyards, steep cliffs, and charming villages during this scenic railway journey. Disembark in Pocinho and re-join the coach. You'll travel to the pretty Medieval village of Carvalhal.
- Carvalhal... spend the next two days at leisure in Carvalhal. Relax at the hotel, or join an optional tour. Explore the village with your guide, or visit the Palacio do Mateus in Vila Real.
- Carvalhal to Porto to UK... time to return to the airport for your flight back to London.
