Hotel details
The Old Government House is in St. Peter Port, just a couple of minutes' stroll from shops, restaurants, and bars. It's set at the top of a small hill, which gives it fantastic views across the lively harbour town and out to the islands of Herm and Jethou in the English Channel.
The hotel mixes elegance with eccentricity — it's full of antique furniture and artworks while bold colour choices throughout the hotel are striking, with deep-red carpets and fabric-lined walls.
There are three restaurants: al fresco dining at The Olive Grove, 2-AA-Rosette The Brasserie Restaurant, and Indian speciality restaurant The Curry Room. You'll get a free 3-course meal in each of the latter two. Daily breakfast at The Brasserie Restaurant is also included, with options such as homemade buckwheat granola, poached smoked haddock, and a full English.
King Rooms are three categories higher than the entry-level rooms at the hotel — they're larger and have a seating area. Wi-Fi is free throughout, and homemade treats are left each evening during the turndown service.
Guests get access to the hotel's spa, which includes a sauna and a steam room, a whirlpool, and a gym. There's also a heated outdoor swimming pool with sun loungers, which is open between May and September.
About Guernsey
Guernsey, the second-largest of the Channel Islands, lies about 30 miles off the west coast of Normandy. Its capital, St. Peter Port, is a pretty bustling harbour with museums including Victor Hugo's (author of Les Misérables) exile home and a museum depicting Guernsey's struggle under German occupation in the Second World War. Overlooking the port is the imposing 17th-century Castle Cornet, which is a 20-minute stroll from the hotel.
