Why We Love This Hotel

  • The Ormond at Tetbury is a former coaching inn that dates from the late 1600s. The property is in the centre of the village. This "perfect, fudge-coloured town" (The Guardian) makes a great base when exploring the Cotswolds.
  • Bistro 23, the hotel's cosy new restaurant, opened in February this year. It serves seasonal, locally sourced food with a contemporary twist.
  • Rooms are individually decorated in a contemporary style. Some have traditional oak-beamed ceilings and 4-poster beds.
  • You can browse the town's antique stores and vintage boutiques or explore the surrounding area. Within two miles of the hotel, you'll find King Charles III's Highgrove Estate. Tours of the gardens are available from April to September.
  • The Victorian-era Westonbirt Arboretum is a great location for a nature-filled walk. The arboretum is 10 minutes' drive from the hotel.
  • Further afield are Castle Combe and the city of Bath. The former was a filming location for 1967's "Doctor Dolittle" and 2010's "War Horse". The latter is famed for its Georgian architecture and Jane Austen connections. Both can be reached by car in less than 30 minutes.

The continental part of breakfast was in a small, dark area of the bar which was a bit disorganised. Also the hotel is undergoing some building work and improvements and the noise did disturb our breakfast experience unfortunately.

The staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The place itself is cozy and the courtyard a great place to sit outside. The room itself was good. It is an old building, which gives it charm, but hot water was unpredictable. Staff so good - they offered another empty room for showering. Overall I loved it.

We booked having seen it advertised via Travelzoo as we wanted to meet up with some of our friends from 'up North' and suggested they book as well, which they did. The hotel is located in the middle of Tetbury so ideal for walking around the town. The staff were very friendly and helpful so all an all we had a good time over the 2 nights. However there were a few things which we were a little disappointed with namely: 1. We stayed in Bedroom 3 and the bottom sheet on the Double bed was too small for the size of bed so when ever you turned over the sheet would roll-up under you which was uncomfortable ie needed a bigger sized bottom sheet. It was annoying so on the 2nd night I got out of the double bed and got into the single bed as the sheet fitted it much better. 2. I would much rather 'tip' what and where i see fit. It wasn't until we paid our bar/reastaurant bill after the 2nd night that we saw that a 12.5% charge had been added to the bill. I'm not saying i wouldn't have given the staff a tipo but i would prefer to choose what tip/amount to give rather than have it forced upon me. 3.Re Point 2 not knowing that it included a 12.5% Service Charge we gave £20 tip to the staff + the 12.5% Service Charge. No wonder the staff really liked us !! 4. We thought the charge for a splash of coke (with a spirit) @£1.60 and a few green beans @ £4.60 to be somewhat excessive. All in all we had an enjoyable long weekend at The Ormand but just a fw things we felt let it down.

Very pleasant staff and breakfast are very good. Hotel right in the middle of Tetbury and has no parking but there are several options within 5/10 mins walk away.

As the hotel has no car park, and there are yellow lines outside, it is best to drop off suitcases and then find parking space. There is a free car park approx 10 to 15 minute walk away bt the old station, but is an uphill walk that is why I suggest you drop off cases first.
