The Falcon Hotel is a 16th-century coaching inn and overlooks Uppingham's Market Place.
The hotel's Main Lounge and oak-panelled Tap Bar have a relaxed atmosphere. The Front Restaurant offers a more intimate fine-dining experience with views overlooking the main square.
Rutland is England's smallest county, but lives up to its motto: Multum in Parvo (much in little). Expect picturesque English villages, with independent shops, antique stores, local art galleries, and country pubs.
Oakham is less than 15 minutes' drive from the hotel. The great hall of Oakham Castle is one of Britain's finest examples of Norman architecture.
The Rutland Water Nature Reserve is 10 minutes away by car. This natural sanctuary is home to more than 25,000 waterfowl.
There are more than 23 miles of traffic-free cycleways that encircle Rutland Water. Hire bicycles and electric bikes from Rutland Cycling Whitwell, 15 minutes' drive from the hotel.

On arrival we were given one of the warmest welcomes we have ever experienced. We were given plenty of local information and assistance with our luggage. Our room was spacious, well furnished and spotlessly clean. The bed was huge and exceptionally comfortable.
Breakfasts were very good and plentiful. The staff throughout our stay were friendly, informative and helpful. We would definitely stay again.

The only negative point in our whole stay was the evening meal, which did not live up to expectations. Although the portions were very generous and freshly cooked the dishes were uninspiring and lacked finesse.

The hotel is in the centre of Uppingham and is a delightful old property that has been modernised very sympathetically to ensure the original features remain whilst guests enjoy all modern comforts. The room was well equipped with everything one could want including a very extensive supply of tea, coffee and biscuits. The lounge area is spacious, comfortable and well used. Breakfast was of a very high quality.

My friend and I booked this hotel as it is mid way between where we both loved. It was a great choice. Uppingham is a delightful town in a great location, close to Rutland Water for walking. The hotel is a little gem - historic, incredibly warm and welcoming with lovely, helpful staff who seem to never stop smiling. We were upgraded to a suite which was perfect for us. We both particularly enjoyed the cosy ambience of the hotel and excellent food.

1st off we had to cancel original booking but they did offer to carry it forward which we did by quite a few months.
Next, staff were really kind and helpful, in all aspects. Breakfast was table service and food excellent.
Parking, we were lucky to find a spot, it is limited. But, there is a huge car park available again, at back of hotel. Plus when I think on it there is also a very useful small store behind the hotel attached to fuelling station.
Village itself is beautiful, with quite a history to it. Do walk around the back of the church there, lovely views. Uppingham Private School also has a history, advise reading it up.
Wife & I are pub people and there's a number to choose from in the village and beyond. But do check out the wood framed bar in the Falcon, quite something.
Rutland itself is a stunning county, we live in beautiful Wiltshire and think that Rutland is similar. Whilst in Uppingham try visiting Oakham, and a little further is the beautiful town of Stamford, Lincs.

We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed our stay. The Travelzoo deal was good value for money but thought the general bar and restaurant prices were expensive. Even so we would recommend the hotel and revisit on a similar deal.

All the staff were very welcoming and helpful and we were perfectly happy with the hotel. Some might say it is a little old fashioned, but that's being picky. The town of Uppingham and the surrounding area were a revelation and we are very grateful to Travelzoo for giving us the opportunity to explore the beautiful county of Rutland.

Very welcoming and a really good accessible room.
The only negative was the proximity of other guests sat in the lounge whilst we were eating dinner. They were far too close for comfort and we were only separated by a metal balustrade. This meant someone with a particularly loud voice made our eating experience less than good.

Very welcoming and pleasant employees. Good food. Service very friendly and efficient. The location is a lovely little town. The hotel is nicely decorated and our room cosy, comfortable and clean. The room amenities are very good as well with quality produce. General ambiance is positive and warm. The ‘ Travelzoo’ deal is great value. We only did one night and it was a shame to leave so soon. Very good full English as well, nicely cooked and not greasy- just the job. We really liked ‘The Falcon’.

The Falcon Hotel is well run with particularly friendly staff. Excellent food and beers/wines on offer. A 20 minute warning to cook your full English breakfast is a clue to it being freshly cooked.
