The location is outstanding and the hotel interior a brilliant mix of classic traditional and quirky features with incredible views. The food was exceptionally good. Reception staff excellent. Playing air hockey in the youth room was great fun too!

The pool/hot tub can only be used when prebooked sessions, for sessions of only 30 minutes. Breakfast and dinner need to be prebooked in advance. Personally we found this clock watching frustrating - as getting away from the constant demand of meetings/appointments and being able to wind down was the reason for getting away.

We have stayed at the Polurrian before , this was much improved on our last experience.
The staff were all happy and helpful and the hotel had a nice feeling about it.
It was nicely decorated and the rooms were clean and pleasant.

Staff all very friendly. Room nice but too warm & despite turning off radiator still warm at night. Opened window but very strong winds kept opening the window very wide & due to the exposed location it was noisy & a worry that the window might be damaged. We suggested the windows need some sort of lock to stop this happening. Food was pretty good & excellent service.

Ticks in most of the boxes but on a harsh note the evening menu lacks much inspiration, service can be slow due to an obvious lack of staff. The meal pricing can also be a bit odd.For most guests these issues may well be minor but overall there is plenty to enjoy at the Polurrian.

All good apart from when we arrived at the hotel and they had not received the booking confirmation from Travelzoo even though we had paid and received a confirmation. The initial problem was that they did not have the room we booked for the nights we had booked for. The hotel were very good and upgraded our booking free of charge even though it was Travelzoo's mistake not theirs.

Had a lovely two night stay here, courtesy of the Travelzoo offer.
Staff are lovely and the sea view is AMAZING.
Only slight reservation, our taste is very conservative and we would have struggled for a third night from the restaurant menu. Perhaps some 'classic' dishes would be a useful addition.
Overall an excellent break

Tried to purchase Elemis toiletries from reception as information given stated. On request at reception there was none available. There were views of the raging sea from the dining room and lounge area. Great service from the bar and dining staff in the evening. The pool was closed as it was winter. I’d love a swim in a heated pool on a cold winter’s day.

A beautiful hotel and setting. We booked a second night on arrival as we were immediately taken by the stunning views and stylish decor. Service was generally excellent but they did forget our starter at dinner on the second night and a service charge is automatically added to all food and drinks so keep an eye on that. (Happy to pay for good service ) The room was spacious and very comfortable. Spa pool in need of a bit of modernising but overall a fantastic weekend away and excellent value for money with the dinner allowance included in the price.

When checking out, I was presented with a bill twice the amount I was expecting. I questioned it and was asked if I wanted to remove service charges, which I replied no but would like the correct bill. I then had to justify each item we had drunk and eaten and were informed someone else had added their food and drink to our bill. I’m not sure how this can happen when we signed for everything. I found the whole situation at reception very embarrassing and unprofessional. An apology would have helped.

Request for extra pillows came very quickly from Joshua?? Ample free parking. Great coastal footpaths directly from hotel. We stayed out of season so little atmosphere. Food very good, drinks a little expensive.

We enjoyed our stay here but unfortunately the hotel is so short of staff. The staff, especially girls in the restaurant and lads in the bar are completely over stretched. We sat in the lounge one day and a crowd of ladies came in and waited for ages at the bar without any acknowledgement, they almost left. I went to reception to let them know. Finally someone came to serve them. We would return but please hire more staff. We were celebrating a birthday, the hotel were informed twice, they even asked what day it was and said they would make a note on the booking. Sadly, this was missed and not even acknowledged.

A few of the restaurant staff were not very friendly and we felt like we’re being told off if not there at exactly correct time for meals. If you are able to eat in bar area and restaurant not sure why they insist on strict eating times - didn’t find this very relaxing also ordered drinks to go with dinner and after eating starters, main course arriving and asking staff twice a drink still had not been brought to us.

Inland facing room was very small and cramped, shower was substandard at best.
N.B. e booked an inward facing room (which was cheaper than a see view) because in November there is far less daylight hours in which to admire the sea view. By booking the cheaper room, we could stay for four nights, instead of three.
Restaurant was cold at breakfast.

The spa was very tired and dated and not a particularly pleasant/relaxing experience .
The staff seemed very disorganised - didnt bring wine when ordered. didnt bring coffee at breakfast. Had to ask on both occasions. Had to wait 10 mins to be seated at the table at both meals. They seemed very understaffed.
The wine was very expensive and poor quality for the charge. The food was average and the menu limited., especially as they ran out of the fish of the day by 7.30pm. The main dining room lacked atmosphere and was more like a bistro than a place for fine dining. The yellow chairs in the breakfast room were stained and grubby.
They charged almost double what most hotels charge to take a dog: £20 where the maximum charge is usually £12 and below.

A well-appointed hotel in a wonderful location on the top of a headland. Our bedroom, with a double aspect, had incredible views. The food was excellent, both at breakfast and dinner. Above all however were the friendly, courteous and efficient staff, all of whom were a delight to interact with. The receptionist (sorry never got her name but from Belfast so you will know who she is) was outstanding - warm, friendly and helpful. The only name we picked up was Trinny Cornwall in the dining room who did a terrific job even when hard pressed with many tables to cover. All the waiting staff were first class as were the ladies cleaning the bedrooms (and their manager who helped valiantly with a room lock which stopped working when the battery expired). The pool and jacuzzi were excellent. The walks in both directions from the hotel gave up excellent views of coast and headlands.

This was our second visit and it even exceeded the first which had been great. Once again we opted for the seaview room upgrade and it was more than worth it. I would say it was the best hotel room ever. Full on seaview right outside the window, really comfy beds, luxury of fresh milk and water in the fridge and an enormous (for an hotel) bathroom with a good powerful shower over the bath. The staff were brilliant.

Everything was first class, location, staff, cleanliness, food etc. The only minus ewas the lack of a lift. We had to climb 4 flights to our room and when we got there the electronic key card didn't work, so I had to go back down. This wasn't ideal for someone in their 80th year, and it would be helpful if this was flagged when booking so that a ground floor room could be chosen

I paid more to upgrade to a family room but in fact was put in a standard double room. The Polurrian blamed Travel Zoo but I know that was not the case as I had previously spoken to a receptionist about the family room. She said the family room was not available but that she would upgrade me to a signature room. On arrival I was placed in a standard double ‘garden room’ which in fact looks onto the carpark

Fabulous hotel! It's a gorgeous old building with perfectly modern interior, with the odd quirky touches here and there. Relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Dining areas (formal and informal) with plenty of glass windows through which to drink in the stunning views. Food at both breakfast and dinner was top notch.
All staff we bumped into, from reception to dining to cleaning staff, were all very friendly and helpful.
The whole experience is 10/10 in my view.

Great location. Lovely cove to walk down to and right on the coastal path. Vista restaurant has a good atmosphere very relaxed and lovely views. Really good food and cooked to order breakfast. Definitely worth paying extra and getting a sea view room. Swam in outdoor pool. That needs updating but it’s part of their new development plan

Great value. Good rooms, lovely views only thing lacking was a coffee machine. Nice Elemis products . As doors to rooms are fire doors etc they make a loud noise on closing so only issue with sound proofing etc. vista restaurant lovely food and atmosphere and great views for both breakfast and dinner,
Preferred that space over the other restaurant. Nice music played. Lovely location right on coast path and lovely local cove. Only negatives are I tried to contact the hotel by email and their contact form on website and never received a response after several attempts. Also should have received a courtesy call prior to arrival which we didn’t so had to ring up and book restaurant etc. some staff were very helpful and friendly although a couple weren’t quite blunt and short of the answers so customer service could be improved.

A warm welcome from reception followed by entering a well cared for and very clean room. The beds were very comfortable and everything was of a superior quality. Each staff member we met during our stay couldn'y have been more helpful. Drinks were not at usually extortionate hotel prices which was a nice surprise. The food was tasty and well presented. The second night a la carte menu was virtually the same as the first and the remaining dishes featured something not to our taste so we opted to choose from the bar menu instead. we paid in cashfor our drinks in the bar rather than run a tab. However, the variations in what we ate were accurately itemised and charged when we checked out. The hotel has outstanding views and plenty of walking opportinities. it was apparent that the owners are constantly maintaining the entire property to a high standard. Over many years of staying at hotels using Travelzoo, the Polurrian is simply the best yet!

We had a thoroughly enjoyable three night stay here in September. The setting overlooking the sea is exceptional, and the restaurants and grounds make the most of the views. Our deluxe sea-view room on the second floor also had a wonderful view across the grounds to the sea. It was very comfortable with plenty of storage space and had a good shower over the bath. A bottle of water and fresh milk in the fridge were a nice touch. The staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere had a relaxed feel to it. The food was very good with two different menus to choose from.We were very lucky with the weather, but given its dramatic setting this would be a great place to stay at any time of the year! What a super break we had at the Polurrian, everything was first rate. The location is stunning, and so convenient for walking the South West Coast Path - it's right there at the bottom of the garden! We had chosen a sea view room and it really was, laying in bed looking out of the window the sea was so close it was like being on a liner. The room was large and comfortable and the bathroom was really full size. We had tea/coffee making facilities and fresh milk and bottled water in the fridge. I take oat milk and the staff were only too happy to provide this, again in a little glass bottle. The meals were incredible and much better value than we have had on other deals with £27.50 dining allowance. We had two really good courses with plenty of choice and I can honestly say that there was nothing we didn't enjoy fully. We were of course very lucky with the weather after all the rain recently, we had three days of sunshine. Our thanks to all the staff every one of whom were extremely friendly and professional.

This is our third stay at the Polurrian Hotel, and each time we have experienced the same problem at check-out. The bill presented bears no relationship to the purchase slips we signed during our stay. Instead of presenting the bill according to each purchase, everything is reconfigured and grouped together according to type of purchase, and given codes, which mean nothing to the customer. I suspect this style of presentation is for the convenience of the hotel’s accounting system, rather than for the convenience of the customer. Incidentally the signed purchase slips were not presented with the bill, and were available only on a screen and only when I asked to see them. It took 30 minutes for the receptionist to reconcile the bill to what we had actually purchased so that we could understand it. Only then could we see that we had been overcharged on food and the pet fee. Furthermore, 3 separate service charges had been added without prior warning, something which we found more than a little presumptuous. The whole process was chaotic, unpleasant and confusing, and spoiled an otherwise pleasant stay.

The hotel was very well equipped and comfortable. I upgraded to a sea view which was well worth the little extra. Also took my dog which was a bonus.

Catering was less good.

Loved it! Beautiful location to access coastal footpaths
Great offer which more than met our expectations. Drinks a little on the expensive side and quality of wines could be improved. We will certainly be returning.
