Why We Love This Hotel

  • There are almost 500 listed buildings in Ludlow. With its "incredible Jacobean facade" (The Daily Telegraph) the hotel is among the most recognisable.
  • The property was built in the 17th century. It has feather motifs adorned on its exterior, a tribute to the Prince of Wales.
  • Use your dinner credit in the Plume@Feathers restaurant, recently awarded an AA Rosette.
  • Learn about the town's history at Ludlow Museum, Ludlow Castle, and St Laurence's Church. They are all approximately five minutes' walk from hotel.
  • The hotel is five minutes' drive from the borders of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape.
  • For panoramic views over the castle and town make for the Whitcliffe Common Nature Reserve. It is 20 minutes' walk from the hotel. The town is also a great base from which to explore The Welsh Marches.

Couldn’t get in their car park as full when we arrived so parked on road . Free until 8 am so had to get up early to move the car to car park which was a bit annoying

Our room had an odour of sewage. We had no fridge and no water provided. Breakfast was very slow and not as good as last time.

This was the third time this year that we have enjoyed a night at this hotel,no complaints whatsoever regarding staff, food, drinks, or cleanliness. It’s a very old building full of quirks and character, looking forward to staying here again in 2025.

There were problems with the restaurant both for dinner and breakfast - there had been a Christmas function in another part of the hotel and this seemed to take preference over the hotels actual guests. Several guests waited in excess of half an hour for restaurant service on the evening and for breakfast guests were asked to specify precise times for their breakfast - not particularly what you want when on a break. Staff seemed very stretched - have noticed a decline in service over the past several years we have been going to the hotel. This will be our last stay.

The outside appearance and the location.

Hotel decor was old fashioned and was like something from the 70's, shabby, drab colours and very uninspiring (despite the hotel being refurbished not too long ago). Not at all inkeeping with the outside of the hotel. I expected rich red curtains and carpets, leather chairs and chintzy cushions. There were no comfy chairs - all hard bucket chairs. Chipped paintwork in the bedroom and hall ways, cheap bedroom curtains and tatty bed throws. The hotel lounge and dining room was very very cold throughout my stay. The log fire kept going out and staff didn't bother to do anything about it - I had to keep asking.......and even then they weren't able to make a decent fire and it went out. Christmas decorations were very poor indeed, no Christmas atmosphere or twinkling lights. Staff were ok but weren't overly friendly or made you feel particularly welcome. They were clearly there to "do a job" and get paid. Food was average at best. The overall visit was very disappointing and quite frankly embarrassing as I'd taken my elderly mother there as a Christmas present. I certainly won't ever consider returning or recommending this hotel. They need to take a look at the Lygon Arms and Broadway Hotel in Broadway.......that's how the interior should decorated in an old property.
