Fantastic, historic inn in a great location and with ghost stories and historic tales aplenty involving all parts of the building. A couple of lovely lounges for residents only and an old world bar with plenty of drink options, including 3 well chosen real ales, and the largest fireplace I have ever seen. Charlie who runs the bar is chatty and charismatic and an asset to this part of the Inn. All the staff were very welcoming and nicely relaxed; a welcome difference from large chain hotels I visit.

We had an excellent visit. The hotel is brilliant and full of history and character. Our room was clean and spacious. Staff friendly, very efficient, and the food was excellent. Breakfast was extremely nice also. Noticed nice touches everywhere, e.g flowers etc. Despite the age of the hotel, it was extremely well maintained

Excellent food although there was a delay in cooked breakfast being served on the first morning (very, very busy). The staff were always polite and helpful when required. We had requested a twin bedded room which was which we were allocated without a problem, whilst the bath had a shower attachment, there was hook or shower curtain so it could not be used as a normal shower, as I am now of an age that getting in and out of a bath is virtually impossible this meant washing in the basin was the only option. Personally I found the mattress on the single bed was too soft on the edges and it was easy to slip out of the bed, although my partner found it really comfortable.

The reception staff talking about us in a derogatory way because I wanted to move my new car and was blocked in by 2 other cars. The staff felt this was an inconvenience to them, and were quite vocal in their opinion, where other guests/staff could hear. Very embarrassing.

Our favourite hideaway - never fails to tick all the boxes but you have to love history and ‘quirky’ - if you love modern and minimalistic don’t go - it’s not for you.
