More Reasons to Go
- The Royal Hotel is a Grade II-listed property that first opened in 1846. It is opposite Bath Spa station, close to some of the city's most popular attractions. It was built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel to accompany the opening of the railway.
- Brasserie Brunel, the hotel's Parisian-style restaurant, serves French specialities. The 1846 Bar offers a lighter menu, as well as cocktails, wines, and real ales.
- Travelzoo members who reviewed their stay praise the "fabulous food", "helpful staff", and "great location".
- You can discover 2000 years of history by visiting the Roman Baths complex. Or take a dip at Thermae Bath Spa; its rooftop pool has extensive city views.
- Bath Abbey is 10 minutes' walk from the hotel. The Circus and the Royal Crescent are around 20 minutes' walk away. Head there to see their impressive Georgian townhouses in golden limestone.

We were given a warm welcome and invited to leave our luggage in a secure room as it was too early for check in. We had a super cream tea which was part of the offer. The hotel is a beautiful, traditional property built approx 1846. It has plenty of character and is very close to Bath railway station.

Lovely welcome from Tim on reception, who kindly arranged for us to have our cream tea while the room was being prepared (we were early). One of the best cream teas ever - huge warm scones.
We then met the ever-helpful Andrea on reception, who described our stay-to-be wonderfully - 'It's all about the food' and boy, was she right. Super meals, good service and nice selection of gin and wines.
Our room was small but very adequate (other than no wardrobe, just two sets of coat hooks), and very warm (slept with the window open). Good, powerful shower and comfy bed.
Only downgraded the service slightly due to the young waitresses at breakfast on our second day. They clearly needed more training - to remove used/dirty dishes as/when you noticed them, and not say loudly that "breakfast finished ten minutes ago" when an apologetic couple were five minutes late. When I asked for smoked salmon in a croissant (rather than on toast), the croissants were pointed out to me to get for myself!
I was happy to do this of course, but as the rest of the staff were excellent, this just stuck out as needing some attention.
Excellent deal and wonderful stay.

Small, old-fashioned Victorian hotel, built by Brunel opposite the railway station. Ideal for those travelling by foot/train (although we actually went by car, parking behind the hotel £12 per night, make sure you book in advance). Location at the south-east corner of the city means a lot of walking to visit the main sights. Bath is also quite hilly and some of the older pavements are very uneven, so best for people not worried about walking. Lots of pedestrian routes criss-crossing the town, so fairly easy to get around.
Good food, helpful staff, clean room and bathroom. Didn't like the fixed shower head instead of the more normal flexible hose. Long wait for hot water to come through.
