Easy to find, pleasant welcome, cosy room, decent afternoon tea, lovely grounds, superb dinner - congrats to the chef and team, this was cooking of a standard far above the quality we were expecting. If you have an antipathy towards dogs, probably don't come - most guests take advantage of the hotel's very dog-friendly status. Lots of good forest walks in the vicinity. Car probably necessary although there is a train station very close.

We were worried that with the obviously ancient heating in our room, the fairly lightweight quilt, and the very cold night forecast, we might be cold in bed. So in the afternoon we asked for an extra blanket. An hour later there was a knock on the door and a member of staff had brought an extra quilt. It was absolutely un-necessary in the event - sorry to staff!

Very welcoming staff. Delicious dinner. Pretty surroundings. We needed a dog-friendly hotel and this could not have been better. It even has grounds big enough to exercise I've your dog by the river.

A lovely hotel, they have really embraced the dog friendly attitude, from treats on arrival to water bowls in the bedrooms. The setting in the countryside is lovely, though during our stay the land by the river was very boggy which may put off some taking their dogs there to walk. There are no other walks directly out from the hotel and require a short car trip. The restaurant food was lovely, and we spent a nice evening by the fire with drinks afterwards.

It was the best experience ever. From start to finish out every need was met with amazing friendly staff. Our room was outstanding luxury! The food in the restaurant was Michelin star quality. The bar was warm and friendly and we could have stated all day and evening. Dogs were as welcome as the guests, probably even more so, if that was possible! Can’t wait to return.

The hotel is lovely with beautiful gardens. The reception, bar and restaurant are excellent and the staff are very friendly and welcoming
However our room was very poor, tired and shabby. The shower had poor pressure, the loo took ages to fill and you could hear it running, probably a wrong ball valve or grit. The bath was dirty and on both sinks the finish had gone and an unslightly green shone through
The television remote didn’t work and as you can see from attached photos there were wire’s left hanging
The furniture was old, mismatched and shoddy, the paint work was chipped and the room was just scruffy tired

This was wonderful for taking dogs. Lots of guest pooches who were well catered for.
We had a cosy room which was just perfect with 1 dog, he soon learned which was his room! The bed was so comfortable, you just melted into it and there were plenty of tea/coffees in the room.
The food was excellent both for evening meals and self service breakfast. Afternoon tea was delicious with just the right amount served. We look forward to returning.

We booked through Travelzoo getting 2 nights B&B plus one afternoon tea for £169 - very good value. We booked a 'cosy' double which was very small - another time I would pay the extra £20 for a larger room. The breakfasts were very good - mainly serve yourself but additional items could be ordered through the waitress. We ate one night in the restaurant which was excellent - it was quite busy so is obviously popular with non residents as well as staying guests.
Other Comments
The main reason we would go back again was the staff - they were always smiling and very helpful. They seemed to be on duty for long periods but this didn't detract from their excellent service at every stage of our visit.

Staff very helpful.
Food all good and tasty although our starters were disproportionately sized- the chestnut tart was very small whereas the artichokes came with a large portion of flatbread and needed a huge plate!
The veg was perfectly cooked- fab!
Breakfast buffet good - scrambled egg was hot, a nice yellow and a lovely taste.
Would like to have seen some fruit salad included in the buffet.
Other Comments
Very dog friendly. Most people seemed to have dogs, which apart from one (had to be taken back to its room at breakfast) were all very well behaved and sat with their owners in the restaurant.

From entering the hotel when we arrived to when we left this morning everyone was so warm and welcoming and always with a smile! Our room was great … the afternoon tea was spot-on and breakfast this morning was superb. A huge plus for us was we were able to take our small dog wherever we went in the hotel! There was no having to leave her in the bedroom and unattended. The grounds of the hotel were wonderful and perfect for dog exercising.
We shall definitely recommend and be returning…

We loved all the friendly staff. They couldn’t have been nicer. Our room was very clean and cosy. Maybe the bathroom would benefit from a spot of modernising. The hotel and grounds were very very nice. It was very much a dog hotel, but in a nice way. Afternoon tea was good. The evening meal was good. Breakfast could have been better. The quality of the food, like bread, could have been so much better It could have been a spot more generous. We would go back though as it was very relaxing and the staff made it.

We do plan to return, but avoid August as it is more expensive to stay as is everywhere, nice in Winter apparently with open fire in bar area. Wedding venue too.

Food very pricey and a little meagre however quality was perfect. Places like this wouldn’t exist however if they can’t make their money up somehow. It would be a tradegy if this was the case.

We got charged an extra £40 as it was a Sunday and I asked if they had a twin room if possible. On arrival they gave us a king-size bed and a single bed but didn't tell us we had to pay extra until the next day. Also the room was not very clean. For £140 a night we could have stayed in a hotel with spa facilities.

The hotel is very remote but it does mean you can visit places more inland which otherwise you might miss. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, and breakfast is very good. We booked a larger room and it was huge with a large bathroom. We went to RHS Rosemore and it is beautiful.

The hotel specialises in dogs so if that’s not your cup of tea then it’s not for you, but it didn’t bother us. The breakfast finishes quite early at 9.45am which is early by most hotel standards.
