The Keswick Country House Hotel occupies an elegant building set in four acres of gardens. It's only a few minutes' walk from the charming centre of Keswick. Previous guests include Queen Elizabeth II and Kaiser Wilhelm II.
The hotel scores an impressive 98% approval from Travelzoo members who have rated their stay. The "excellent location", "helpful staff", and "fabulous" meals score particularly highly.
Public areas include a lounge and bar, and a restaurant with views of the gardens.
There are a host of walking routes on the hotel's doorstep. The property is next to a walking and cycling route from Keswick to Threlkeld that has been converted. Converted from a disused railway line, it provides level access along its length.
You could also walk around Derwentwater and watch the fells reflecting off the lake surface. For something more challenging, take on Skiddaw, the third-highest mountain in England.

Very enjoyable. Food excellent. Comfortable lounges. Other than the comment below it was a very good deal.

The included 3 course dinner was very good, but had we been paying for it separately we would probably have eaten elsewhere, as at £45pp we felt it was at least £5 and possibly £10 too expensive compared to other local establishments. £39 would have been an acceptable price, considering coffee was not included.

The last time we visited the Keswick Hotel was over 20 years ago. The hotel was a little old fashioned and in need of a a makeover. Our current visit was a different experience. The room was excellent with good views from our windows. The beds were comfortable, the room clean and spacious. The staff were very helpful and friendly. It was certainly a excellent value for the price

Another lovely visit to this Grande Old Hotel which provides comfort and relaxtion to all of its guests, the staff are all very welcoming and helpful, food in the restuarant was eceptional washed down by a nice glass of wine or two, Very handy for a stroll into town or a stroll around the local riverside park or even a walk along the old trainline to Threkeld which is just over 3 miles and if you have had enough walking after refreshments jump on the bus back to Keswick , perfect day out. Local buses available to take you virtually everywhere around the Lakes so definately a great base to stay at.

This was a lovely hotel with lots of character. It was very clean. The pillows could do with an update but apart from that I couldn't fault it. The hotel was in a good location with its own gardens and I would imagine in summer it's beautiful to sit on the lawns.
The one thing that stood out was the service, it was like the service you used to get in hotels before everything went self serve. The dining room was beautiful and so were our meals. I would definitely go back

I just want to say the service was outstanding. It reminded me of the service you used to get before everything went self service so thank you

The food and drinks and the staff were all excellent
The rooms were tired and our room 311 was minuscule
I injured myself walking around the bedroom as walked in to table beside bed where the was not enough room and again trying to get into the bathroom as I walked into to the toilet as you could not stand in front of it and close the door as insufficient room.
Our room was above the bin section so we had early morning bottle aplenty going into recycling and smells
We were disappointed with the bar service, we got back from walking around town and went for a couple of drinks before bedtime. The staff were removing the Beer mats from the bar and my husband enquired as to whether The bar was closing to which the staff replied no no we’re not closing yet but we have to do this as part of shutdown but this was before 10 pm did indeed make the bar look like it was closed on ordering our last drink after being told the bar was closing down we were informed that we could not use cards as the card machines have been shut down. This was at 10:30 so we only had options of paying by cash or charging to the room the left the bar area locked up at 11:04 which is obviously very efficient however it may give customers a better experience by not completing final shutdown until last orders are Complete.

This was our second visit to the hotel, where the staff are so friendly, efficient and helpful. The hotel is a beautiful space to relax and unwind and is in a great location to walk out into the town.
The dining room is a lovely space in which we enjoyed a first class meal from albeit a limited menu. The gardens are beautifully kept and are a nice place to sit and enjoy a pre evening meal drink. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so enjoyable. Rest assured we shall be revisiting the hotel soon

The hotel is conveniently located, being just a short walk from the town centre. We had no problems parking our car. We enjoyed our walks around the well kept grounds (accompanied by Shadow, the cat!) and the beautiful views from the dining room added to the pleasure of eating there. The staff members we had contact with were all attentive, helpful and pleasant. The food was excellent!

Evening meal was poor - we both had the Duck which had a flaccid skin that was inedible. Supposedly refurbished room was unable to open the single window. Staff member eventually propped it up with a toilet roll.

Towel rail wasn't on in bathroom & it may have been us that turned off in error looking for light but damp towels were put on rail & were still damp when we showered next day - think cleaner could have switched rail on or given dry towels... silly gripe but a gripe all the same!!!

Really enjoyed our stay here. Location is brilliant for walking into Keswick. Evening meal very good. Food perfectly cooked and service superb. Staff very efficient and friendly. The grounds are lovely to sit out for a drink. We were lucky with the weather as well which makes a difference. Only slightly negative comment was some of the decor in common areas looking rather tired. Would recommend.
