The hotel is on Bournemouth's popular East Cliff, a 10-minute stroll from the beach. The sand stretches seven miles, running from Sandbanks in Poole to Hengistbury Head.
The Orchid's No 34 Restaurant offers gastro-style cuisine—from nibbles to hearty meals—in a lounge setting. Enjoy a drink at the fully licensed bar or in the courtyard on a fine day.
Guestrooms retain their grand period features including high ceilings and large bay windows. Each has a contemporary bathroom, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and complimentary Wi-Fi.
The Lower Gardens, Oceanarium, and Bournemouth Pier are all within 15 minutes' walk from the hotel. From the pier, you can zip-wire back to shore.
The New Forest National Park, famous for its free-roaming ponies, is under 30 minutes' drive away. It has more than 140 miles of walking and cycling tracks. Plus, pretty villages and towns to visit including Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst.

Luckily we were able to change our room to a twin, as 2 friends do not want to share a bed these days! Travelzoo should offer twin or double rooms not just doubles! The hotel is nice, staff lovely but hot! The buffet breakfast is very good!

Booked two rooms together but when we arrived they were in two different parts of the hotel. They managed to get us closer but not next door. The lift was broken but they did not mention this or offer to carry our cases and we are all OAP’s. The £25 voucher did not cover the cost of two courses and very limited choice. A glass of wine was over £8. Breakfast on first morning very good with self service buffet but on second day order from kitchen. On our second evening the restaurant was closed so we had to eat out.

In summary, the limited staff were pleasant, 5 minutes to cliff top view and another 5 minutes to pier and shops. Average rooms and good parking. Lift needs to be repaired or help with luggage offered. Tv in one room did not work and not mended or replaced.

The hotel has a boutique feel about it! The decor is very tasteful and the staff are so helpful. A short walk to the beach and town centre. It was easy to find and plenty of parking available! The food, although not a large menu, was very tasty and well presented and breakfast was plentiful. A pleasant bar area was available as well.

The only downside of the whole experience was wait for the evening meal! We were booked for a show at the Pavilion (only a short walk away) so we booked early 5.30 pm. The restaurant wasn’t busy (only two other couples when we ordered) but the food took 3/4hr to arrive. That unfortunately left us having to rush to catch the performance.

We are currently staying at this hotel in room 117. This room is above the dinning room were they play background music, but the music is much louder in the bedroom and constant. The receptionist refused to turn the music down or off so we have to put up with this disturbance

Very pleased with the room/en suite bathroom, breakfast very good although brown sauce not very nice ,can't beat HP.Evening meal both starters very good fish and chips lot of batter very little fish,
chicken in red wine sauce very good.
I did tell them in Reception that we were unable to have a bath as the plug in the bath, wasn't function so the water was getting away.
In spite of these little defects I would still return as it was a very enjoyable experience.

The hotel looked good in the main entrance, dinning room and bar and the staff were lovely. The food was absolutely delicious and really well presented. The downside was our room. It was very tired and the curtains were really shabby , the backing was disintegrating and quite grubby .

A good deal persuaded us to choose the hotel. Also the parking and location. Bournemouth has so many options for accommodation and I not sure The Orchid offers anything exceptional. Generally all was acceptable. Unfortunately our room (117) was an amplifier for the downstairs pipe music and so we were able to move. Also the AC wasn't effective and we were given a fan. Food and service were good but not special. Staff were helpful. Décor was well thought through but signs of age still show through. A reminder to cleaning staff (and this is for most hotels) please clean the shelves and cupboard tops, and behind/under the beds.

Hotel function areas were all very nice and pleasantly presented.
Breakfast was organised and stocked up with many food requirements.
Our room was comfortable but looking very tired.
The main problem we saw was the lack of staff, you’d be greeted on reception in a morning by a lady who then popped up serving your breakfast and then looking after guests in the bar area.

Tables in breakfast area all need levelling as they all wobble while taking your breakfast.
Guest were all using place mats to pack them.

Visited 2016 and again in April 24. Hotel is perfectly situated on the overcliff and the staff and service are all excellent.
Our room 101 was looking in need of a lick of paint but was otherwise just fine (cleanest shower glass ever seen!).
Breakfast was hot and plentiful although served as a buffet which is not as indicated by the the laminated card in the information pack. We also had a lovely cream tea served on the first day of our stay.
We booked for dinner for the second day of our stay and unfortunately had to share the reception/bar area with a huge noisy crowd of union members celebrating something. They were so loud that we had to have the dining room door closed and chose not to sit in the bar area after dinner. This was the only downside of our stay.

We enjoyed our stay at the Orchid hotel but it was chronically understaffed. Reception often left unattended and only one person serving in the restaurant covering the breakfast buffet. Constant running out of plates, cutlery and breakfast food. Huge delay in clearing plates because there simply were no staff. The rooms were well decorated and free parking a bonus. I would return if assured they have recruited more staff.
