"An interesting character venue with great staff who were all very accommodating and helpful. Food was all very good and the bar and restaurant were particularly enjoyable spaces as was the outside terrace."
Albert Cottage is a country house hotel with a boutique feel. Original Victorian tiled floors, coving and wood panels, and fireplaces create an atmosphere of period elegance.
The restaurant and bar has views of the garden. It is a fitting spot to indulge in Victorian afternoon tea.
The property is a stone's throw from Osborne House and entry is included. Walk through opulent state rooms, family suites, and "glorious gardens" (Country Living).
The scenic 68-mile Isle of Wight coastal path covers the entire circumference of the island. The section of the path that connects East Cowes and Ryde is a short stroll from the hotel.
*Ferry crossing reservations are made through The Albert Cottage. Car ferry crossing on both Red Funnel and Wightlink is for a standard car (up to 5 metres in length and 2.4 metres in height). In the event of ferry crossing cancellations, contact the hotel to secure alternative ferry crossing dates. Your voucher will be redeemed for the original booking date, but the hotel will honour the voucher up to 12 months from the original booking date at no extra charge.
**Visit the Osborne House website for opening times. English Heritage members receive a bottle of house wine in lieu of the tickets.

Our one comment would be that the bedrooms need updating with better Wi Fi plug system, also more electric plugs generally in all bedroom suites.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Just one comment we were there Sunday to Tuesday, and discovered that afternoon tea is not served on Mondays. This was not mentioned anywhere on the information sheet of what was included. So we missed out on the afternoon tea. Very disappointing!

We liked the large room very much. The staff were delightful. The dinner, breakfast and afternoon tea were all good. However there was a long haired cat which strolled through the restaurant on our first evening. My husband is allergic to cats. He had to go to our room immediately.
Other Comments
When l told them about it they were concerned that he was ok. But said the cat had decided to live there and they couldn’t get rid of it……… We felt this was not good enough. We hadn’t thought to mention this allergy as Nobody expects an animal in the restaurant of their hotel. It was odd as my husband is allergic to hazelnuts which we had mentioned and they were very careful about that. Fortunately the cat was not present in the room we had breakfast or our room or we would have had to leave.

One small snag which might not have been the responsibility of Albert Cottage. Tickets to visit Osborne House were included for an extra cost. We stayed Monday and Tuesday night but discovered on arrival that Osborne house is not open Mondays and Tuesdays at this time of year. Fortunately we were able to change the time of our return ferry crossing on Wednesday so were able to visit Osborne House before leaving the island. It would be worth warning guests intending to visit Osborne House to check opening times before booking tickets.

We had a very enjoyable stay. Although the car charger did not work, we did not have enough towels and the hotel is a little tired; the staff more than made up for this with helpfulness. Nothing was too much trouble, well done them. The food was very good, and you cannot take away the history of the place just would be nice to see it loved.

Very enjoyable with a lovely room and helpful staff. However, there was an issue where the bar and restaurant were closed on our second night without any prior warning. The staff were very apologetic but unable to help us. Our plan was to have a drink at the bar followed by a snack of some description. We had left a part bottle of red wine at the bar to be finished that evening as we were returning home the following day. I would have expected at the very least a refund of the cost of the wine but there wasn't an offer. One minor irritation was a noise from below our room (number 5) which sounded like an extractor fan or similar which could be heard above the sound from the TV. Maybe from the kitchen?

Unfortunately we visited during Storm Nelson so couldn't fully appreciate the lovely grounds (Osborne House). Very very convenient for the Southampton ferry (10 mins). Although in the grounds of the house - Albert Cottage is located on a main road which is audible. Staff were helpful and generally very cheery. The food was beautifully prepared by a Gordan Ramsey trained chef and priced accordingly.
Rooms were well appointed (we were lucky enough to have Room 1 - Empress Suite) which is very generously sized with a beautiful ensuite.
Rooms had "standard" provisions, tap water in bottle, instant tea, coffee and a biscuit upon arrival. Bathroom essentials also provided. The tea and coffee and milk sachets were replenished daily but nothing else.
Bed very comfortable and lovely large TV for the stormy evenings. A very pleasant harbour in a rather wet and windy period.
