Higher Trapp Hotel has lovely views of the surrounding countryside. It boasts an elevated position within four acres of terraced gardens in the Pendle Valley.
The hotel has a conservatory and a terrace to unwind with a drink at the end of a day's sightseeing. The floor-to-ceiling windows in Fitzy's Bar & Restaurant make the most of the views.
The location is excellent for walkers. Hike the Pendle Way footpath, beginning in Barley, which is less than 15 minutes' drive away. Discover landscapes ranging from moorland to meadow. Visit villages and hamlets associated with the 17th-century Pendle Witch trials along the way.
Follow the 5.5-mile Tolkien Trail, starting at Hurst Green around 25 minutes' walk away. This circular route passes through landscapes that inspired the author while writing The Lord of the Rings.
Gawthorpe Hall, an Elizabethan country house and National Trust property, is 10 minutes' drive away. Stroll through the gardens, which have views over the River Calder.

If you want to go off grid for a day or two this hotel is highly recommended. Not far from Pendle hill either for a leg stretch.

Hotel a little tired with threadbare carpets leading to upstairs rooms. We paid extra for a premium room which ha a lovely view but again, tired with dated bathroom with shower over the bath. We were on all inclusive Travelzoo deal which cost just over £200 with room upgrade but evening meal extremely limited to fish and chips, gammon and chips and cheese and onion pie. Although upgrades were available. Staff wonderful but didn’t make up for overall disappointing hotel which is desperately in need for a refurbishment.

The hotel, like many of its age, is a little 'frayed round the edges'. It was, however, very good value for the price we paid through TravelZoo. The food was good and plentiful. The staff, without exception, were excellent and went the extra mile to ensure that we had an enjoyable stay.

Stunning scenery around. The hotel is elderly so the rooms were nothing special. We had no view from the bedroom. There was a limited menu for the all inclusive package but we enjoyed the pie and chips and fish and chips very much They were freshly cooked and the chips were homemade. We also enjoyed the free bar one night and wine tasting the second night. A good idea.

The stay was really good value for money, we met other couples and had a great evening with the open bar. We stayed in the annex part of the hotel and were given a disabled access room which wasn’t great but it was a large room and fine for one night.

Rules on food and drinks were nonsense . Quality of the main courses were below standard however breakfasts were to an acceptable standard. Some areas of the hotel were definitely tried, eg main stair carpet and chesterfield sofa in the lounge area.

Excellent afternoon tea with as much tea or coffee as you wanted. The restaurant was very busy and the kitchen staff seemed overwhelmed, so the food which was good, was slow arriving. Very good breakfast.

We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed having drinks on the elevated outside terrace, overlooking the well tended garden.

Stayed one night with a friend and upgraded to a twin room overlooking the garden. This is a beautiful old hotel mainly used for weddings. It's a bit tired and worn in places. Bar area had no atmosphere and the meal was average although breakfast was good. The deal was good value for money and we did enjoy our stay. Room very comfortable glad we upgraded as some rooms overlook the car park!!

We absolutely loved every second of our stay. All the staff was really friendly and welcoming. Fabulous value for money, we will definitely be back soon.
Young staff very polite attentive and helpful. Evening meal ok but not great but breakfast had been kept warm for too long and was dry and overcooked. Would prefer a pot of tea at breakfast instead of out of an insulated jug. Room a little worn in places but comfy clean bed and en suite.

Travel zoo deal . Better generally than we expected . Only negative was No Rag pudding available which my husband was looking forward to.

Perhaps when putting a particular sauce to go with dishes it should actually be what is advertised! Also at breakfast I ordered veg breakfast which came with a variation of veg sausage but again not as specified on the menu. Non of these things spoiled our enjoyment but perhaps some people would have more issue with.

Evening meal was inedible, carpets in the bedroom were disgustingly dirty. No soap to wash hands, no umbrellas, rooms were outside, pouring with rain. Awful experience.
