Why We Love This Hotel

  • Higher Trapp Hotel has lovely views of the surrounding countryside. It boasts an elevated position within four acres of terraced gardens in the Pendle Valley.
  • The hotel has a conservatory and a terrace to unwind with a drink at the end of a day's sightseeing. The floor-to-ceiling windows in Fitzy's Bar & Restaurant make the most of the views.
  • The location is excellent for walkers. Hike the Pendle Way footpath, beginning in Barley, which is less than 15 minutes' drive away. Discover landscapes ranging from moorland to meadow. Visit villages and hamlets associated with the 17th-century Pendle Witch trials along the way.
  • Follow the 5.5-mile Tolkien Trail, starting at Hurst Green around 25 minutes' walk away. This circular route passes through landscapes that inspired the author while writing The Lord of the Rings.
  • Gawthorpe Hall, an Elizabethan country house and National Trust property, is 10 minutes' drive away. Stroll through the gardens, which have views over the River Calder.

Very quiet and about 2 miles from civilisation but very peaceful.

If you want to go off grid for a day or two this hotel is highly recommended. Not far from Pendle hill either for a leg stretch.

Hotel a little tired with threadbare carpets leading to upstairs rooms. We paid extra for a premium room which ha a lovely view but again, tired with dated bathroom with shower over the bath. We were on all inclusive Travelzoo deal which cost just over £200 with room upgrade but evening meal extremely limited to fish and chips, gammon and chips and cheese and onion pie. Although upgrades were available. Staff wonderful but didn’t make up for overall disappointing hotel which is desperately in need for a refurbishment.

The hotel, like many of its age, is a little 'frayed round the edges'. It was, however, very good value for the price we paid through TravelZoo. The food was good and plentiful. The staff, without exception, were excellent and went the extra mile to ensure that we had an enjoyable stay.

Stunning scenery around. The hotel is elderly so the rooms were nothing special. We had no view from the bedroom. There was a limited menu for the all inclusive package but we enjoyed the pie and chips and fish and chips very much They were freshly cooked and the chips were homemade. We also enjoyed the free bar one night and wine tasting the second night. A good idea.

The stay was really good value for money, we met other couples and had a great evening with the open bar. We stayed in the annex part of the hotel and were given a disabled access room which wasn’t great but it was a large room and fine for one night.
