Just the break we needed. It’s a lovely hotel next to the river. The feeling of being in the countryside but the lovely town of Sudbury right on your doorstep.
The staff are exceptionally helpful and the room was cosy and warm. The breakfast is hot and lovely. We will be booking again

Great location, friendly staff, rooms very clean but the bathrooms small and dated. Atmosphere in the hotel was lovely. The only negative was the limited choice menu.

The hotel was beautiful and in a lovely scenic setting, yet very close to the town. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and warm. We had one meal in the restaurant and it was very reasonably priced good quality food. Breakfast was very nice as well. There was lots to do in Sudbury as well.

Brought my daughter for our joint pre-December birthday celebrations. Restaurant was pleasant. Bar area also had a pleasant ambiance although was a bit draughty. Hotel nicely decorated for the festive season. Appreciated the tea and coffee making facilities in our room. A bit challenging carrying our bags up to the top floor. Set in beautiful surroundings. Good car parking facilities. Staff were pleasant and helpful, thank you.

We seemed to be put out of the way at the very end of the hotel. Room is tired tbh, the area of the hotel that we stayed in was very dated. No drawers so had to leave underwear etc in the case. Weird things like a fire door been propped open. Breakfast was ok. Location was not bad really, about a 10 min walk to tge centre of sudbury

Overall very good. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms good and food especially evening meal was excellent. Perhaps could do with more choice for breakfast on the cold side ie. A fruit salad for the cereal, cranberries, seeds etc.

Lovely location, good for dog walkers and local to town.

Great Location. Spacious room. Great views of the water meadows from the bar. Perfect for walking and exploring. Interesting town full of history and lots to visit in the area.

The only criticism was the breakfast, which is such a big part of staying away. As we arrived and our table was cleared we noticed the previous people hadn't eaten their breakfast, so probably not just us that was disappointed. Hard dry, sausages, only scrambled eggs on offer which were like a bath sponge and mushrooms that tasted of soap - inedible. No fruit and no dairy free yoghurt. So bad we went out for breakfast on our 2nd morning. However the dinner offering was delicious.

Well situated next to the common but 2 grumbles. No drawers whatsoever in room and the buffet breakfast is by default scrambled eggs rather than fried. Seems strange you have to specifically ask for fried as fried breakfast is what you look forward to as a treat.

The whole place looked very ‘tired’. Needs updating. The shower in our room didn’t work. Cobwebs across the lampshade. No blind at the bathroom window. The buffet breakfast was bleak and very 1970s

We are glad we went. The second time. But was a little disappointed with the food. One evening meal there which was passable. However the breakfast was not so good. buffet style with cooked english. Not at all appetising. Had to search for cutlery! No one was that bothered .
Other Comments
Despite the above I would recommend the hotel. Its in a great location. But I feel management there have let standards slip since our last visit. Customer service could be improved. Certainly the food needs a major overhaul.

A sitting room would have been useful to read or play cards when the weather is poor To have to sit in the bar with a menagerie of dogs is not pleasant

Enjoyable experience in a hotel with character.
Comfortable, though bed a bit soft.
My overriding comment, would be that the room, in particular the bathroom,
was somewhat 'confined'.
Would not stop me from returning.
Staff welcoming and friendly.

I have been many times. This time I was disappointed with the room. It was considered a standard double but felt very small and the bathroom past its best
Other Comments
The bar was particularly noisy and a bit cool in temperature. The main restaurant was good and served a good mask meal. The bedroom was not serviced which I was surprised about as it normally is

Overall good stay for us with an actively rotating water mill located in the dining room. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast had a good english one although could have been a little better. Its a three story building with no lift, so this does pose its challenge.
Other Comments
Shower need significant improvement, it gives a feel of slow going tape rather than a shower. Room was small but acceptable given it was a standard room. Windows producing lot of moisture and cant see anything despite being a river facing. Needs a little more life the carpets on the stairs. Also a bit more variety to the English breakfast would go a long way.

Nice central location. Room overlooked a peaceful meadow. (Had to pay extra for a room upgrade). Room a bit dated, but acceptable. Strange black light shade at odds with the neutral decor.
Breakfast could could have done with a bit more variety. Only scrambled eggs on offer. Tureen of beans was empty.
Dinner just about OK. I had moules marinierre. Very small mussels and the 'cream' not very creamy. Slightly bitter taste. No spoon supplied for the sauce - not too bothered as did not taste very nice. 'Arty' little chips - proper chips would gave been better. My partner had a butternut squash veggie dish, which she enjoyed. Yorkshire pudding missing from the dish when it arrived. We had to ask for this.

Lovely hotel right by the water, loads of wildlife to see. All staff were helpful and friendly. Room was nice and spacious. The bed was really comfortable (and I have back problems), the bedding was good quality too. Rooms are a little tired looking too. Only downside is they do not have a lift. So if you have mobility problems it’s essential you state your needs on booking. There were still a couple of sets of 2 steps to navigate. However, we had a lovely stay and would return.

Lovely hotel. Beautiful outlook over the water meadows. Our room was very compact but the bed was comfortable. Little things irritated a bit. Couple of coat hooks on the wall behind the door would have helped and also a towel rail in the bathroom. However for the price we paid it was good value.
Other Comments
We do wish hotels wouldn't charge such high prices for their drinks. We would have used the hotel bar, which was lovely, more than the once. Instead we take our business elsewhere.

As a travelzoo deal the hotel was good value - I would be disapponited with the accomodation if paying the full price as the standard double room was small and the bathroom awkwardly laid out.
Staff were welcoming, food from the Hotel Restaurant was good and reasonable value, the location of the Hotel with nice sunset views over open fields and Mill pond was its best feature.
