Have stayed here several times, staff always helpful and polite, food very good.
The position of the hotel is perfect for us to do lots of nice walks in the area.
Other Comments
Our only negative comment is the hotel could do with some maintenance and detailed deep cleaning.

We booked a dog friendly room which was disappointed small, especially with having a dog. Breakfast was not great as the buffet style had been left far too long & was obviously not fresh.
Other Comments
Luckily the setting was amazing & the weather was lovely which meant the disappointing room size & the breakfast did not spoil our break.

Lovely, relaxing hotel in an excellent location.
Evening meal a little expensive for what you get and fairly limited menu.
Breakfast lovely.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Room very small for a couple with no proper wardrobe or drawers.

It was intended as a couple of quiet days in pretty surroundings for our Wedding Anniversary. We were disappointed in the choice of food on the menus but what was available was reasonably good. There was a shortage of staff at times and cleanliness of tables was sometimes lacklustre.. Sudbury didn't appear to have alternative restaurants nearby for our evening meal or we would have eaten out on the second evening.

We had dinner on the first night (the food was not good sadly either) and we had been given incorrect information by reception re booking. However the young man on duty (worked like a Trojan all day) was brilliant. His name was Jack T and he was brilliant and sorted everything for us.
We were given incorrect information by reception the second day as well and went for afternoon tea. (More staff incompetence with staff sadly). However the manager on duty kindly sorted what he could (didn't catch his name) and also offered to buy a drink for us should we wish to come down later (which we didn't mainly due to the stairs) but it was a kind thought. He agreed that there seemed to be a staff training issue.
Its a shame because in the main the staff were lovely

The room was very worn. The windows were single glazed metal and very old lots of condensation and tatty. You could not fully open the bathroom door as it hit in to the toilet.
The room next door sounded as though they were in the room with you with little or no insulation to block noise.
There were lots of quite steep stairs to the 2nd floor (and third floor) but NO lift which we were not aware of when booking.
We were given incorrect information by more than one member of staff and as this was a present to my husband for his birthday from me I was bitterly disappointed.
Also the bed was 'made' by staff but on both days we had to remake it as they hadn't straightened the mattress cover under the bottom sheet not had they tucked the sheet in so it was lumpy and loose.
I should mention that on arrival the receptionist advised the only other room they had was on the third floor (we were on the second) when we explained that I struggled with stairs after an op on my leg. When halfway up the first steep flight she called up that it was better on the way down as I could slide down the bannisters! Now at 70 years old I luckily have a sense of humour but after the disasters during our stay I did wonder if the lack of professionalism on our arrival was wise

Lovely hotel in a great location near to the town centre.
The staff were all friendly and helpful.
Nice atmosphere with pleasant views across the meadows.
Other Comments
There is no lift. So if your room is on the third floor be prepared to puff your way up and down. However, great exercise.
The rooms were clean and the bed comfortable.

Used the hotel for a walking break. Enjoyed its setting on the river. The staff were very friendly. Very busy at breakfast, particularly the Saturday morning, staff worked hard to keep up.

Originally put in a very small dark room. Asked to be moved and they kindly upgraded us to a superior double. Apart from that it was very good.
