Wotton House Country Estate Hotel dates from 1618, and was built by the Evelyn family. Diarist, writer, and gardener John Evelyn was born there. His chronicles of 17th-century England later led to the publication of Samuel Pepys's own diary.
The Wotton Estate has 13 acres of grounds, which include England's earliest Italian garden. It was completed in 1652 and features Roman-style temples and original mosaics.
The hotel's 1877 Restaurant is set around a central olive tree. It offers a contemporary bistro menu.
Wotton House has extensive leisure facilities for guests to use. These include an indoor swimming pool, a Jacuzzi, a steam room, a sauna, and a gym.
The surrounding Surrey Hills National Landscape offers a host of walking and cycling routes. Box Hill, famed for its views across the North Downs, is a 20-minute drive away.

We enjoyed our stay at Wotton House, made good use of the spa and pool (which was clean and well maintained) and had a lovely meal in the restaurant.
Our only slight disappointment was the cooked breakfast - we come down to breakfast early and some of the cooked items were cold and dried out. It’s hard to keep buffet items super fresh, but as we were early it seemed at odds. There was plenty of choice though, so opted for pastries instead.

Major mix up on room numbers and deal types at check in and check out. Not the fault of front of house staff, but the hotel’s system. I’ll be writing to them.

The package deal was appealing. It is a dog and child-friendly hotel so not quite as fun for a girls' weekend perhaps. It did not feel as luxe as some country hotels, e.g.friendliness of staff, condition of hotel and grounds, low ceilings and big dehunidifer with tube out window in bedroom, music playing was a bit cheesy, my martini mocktail served in a normal glass with plastic straws, etc. Breakfast was great and overall a fun stay.

Very impressive building and beautiful gardens with views that we we could not see from our room. We only had a rundown brick and stone so called folly to look at.

LImited access for disabled parking there is only two spaces. The room was a very long walk with cases and no help available. The room 216 was extremely cramped and hot due to the face it was over the spa which emanated lots of heat into the room that could not be dissipated due to the sash window being governed to open only about 5" or so. There was no fan until we requested one and the seemed surprised there was not one there already as they knew it was hot. There was no hooks anywhere in the room particularly to hang wet coats and also none in the bathroom for wet towels and dressing gowns. The shower tray was about 6" off the ground and very slippy and no where to hang on to only the glass shower screen itself that was very wobbly. There was a massive crack in the handbowl and the shower gel and creams were almost impossible to dispense. The room was very dark even with the lights on. The menu was extremely limited and also expensive (as we had £28 each to spend) as there were only about two options available at that price. The service was poor as we had to wait at least half any hour for tea and coffee in the morning despite asking several times. The same again with the dessert menu and we had to ask repeated if they had forgotten and they had. It was full to capacity and had to queue for everything breakfast time and the bacon and sausage was under cooked. Limited options available for vegetarians and vegans. We told them about our allergies and they were forgotten. Definitely not an experience to be repeated. We have paid half the price and had far better room, food and service. When I complained to the reception I was asked would I like a call from the hotel to air my views and as yet I have not had a call. Overall a bad experience.

My partner got terrible food poisoning from what we believe was the food from the kitchen the night before. He has never been this sick with food poisoning before. We were told he had to go to A&E for a sample test or return to his GP for a sample test. Well we don’t believe in wasting hospital NHS Time and by the time he got through to his GP this morning he could not get triaging for a specimen pot and couldn’t give a sample

A lovely hotel set in beautiful grounds. Nice comfortable room with lovely extra touches. They really have thought of everything. Dinner and breakfast were most enjoyable and all the staff members we encountered were attentive, polite and efficient. The only thing I can think to comment on as a negative is that a second coffee machine at breakfast would be a good idea to alleviate queuing.

Definitely will stay again

Lovely hotel with great views from the terrace and a good pool. Bedroom comfortable and bathroom looked brand new. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Only slight downside was breakfast. We arrived 30 minutes before it finished but it seemed very empty of produce - no fruit, only a couple of slices of bread and possibly other missing items that we were unaware of. Also, all the tables, although mostly empty of people were still covered with the remains of their meals which didn't make it particularly appealing. I'm sure the staff would have sorted the food if we'd asked but they were very busy.

This was a birthday treat for my partner. The whole experience was very good. We were warmly welcomed and given a voucher for two glasses of prosecco to celebrate the birthday. there was an atmosphere which was difficult to explain but probably could say, relaxed but respectful .The staff were very well trained and quick to fulfil any request. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent and very much served with a smile.
Two small quibbles; There was no where to put a suitcase except on the desk which we were reluctant to do in case we scratched the desk. A folding suitcase holder would be a good idea to solve this problem.
Secondly ( and a problem we have in most hotels) the room was very warm and the thick duvet therefore too hot. Some kind of lighter covering ,for example a top sheet and lightweight fleece would have enabled us to have a better nights sleep. Perhaps these could be available at reception?

Had an amazing stay at Wotton House which is set within fantastic grounds surrounded by water and include an Italiante Garden with a mount and Temple. The room we stayed in was The Ivy and it was luxurious with extra touches like robes, slippers, refrigerated water, tea making facilities. The public rooms are beautifully decorated reflecting the history of the building which is mentioned in the Doomsday book. The bar and the lounges were attractively furnished and welcoming. The restaurant is more modern and low-ceilinged and vast and somehow doesn't quite reflect the comfortable and classic ambience of the rest of the hotel. A vast space that has cleverly been designed in most of the area but expect no table cloths or other refinements. It is not a fine dining experience..
Other Comments
The staff are exemplary. From reception to staff at dinner and at breakfast. The food was passable but we were expecting a little more from such a prestigious hotel. Breakfast was great with a choice of cooked and a wide array of cereals, baked goods, fruit and juices etc. The grounds are wonderful for a stroll around after breakfast.

From the moment we arrived we were happy. We were had the option of an upgrade and given a choice of rooms, which we also could view before choosing. The rooms were immaculate and provided everything we needed. The use of the spa facilities and gym were excellant, staff were very nice and helpful with one member recommending where to go for one of the walks. The food and service were outstanding. We also made use of the morning room and had a night cap in front of the log fire before going to bed. The choice of breakfast in the morning was plentiful and very tasty. We are definately going to stay here again. There are quite a few National Trust places to visit within the area.

Only criticism would bathroom was a little small with dated shower which isn’t suitable for someone tall, and the rooms are warm, but have a Dyson Fan to keep cool.
