Buckler's Hard is a small shipbuilding village where vessels were constructed for Admiral Nelson's navy. The Master Builder's House was the residence of the head shipbuilder, Henry Adams.
The property is now a boutique hotel. It has stunning views of the Beaulieu River and its pretty marina.
Dining options include a casual pub and the AA-Rosette-awarded Riverview restaurant. There's a "stylish" (The AA) dining room, plus a terrace and gardens for al fresco dining.
Buckler's Hard Maritime Museum tells the fascinating story of this picturesque hamlet. You could combine a visit with a riverside stroll to the village of Beaulieu. There's a path leading directly to it from Buckler's Hard.
The Beaulieu estate, home to 13th-century Beaulieu Palace House, is around five minutes' drive. The on-site National Motor Museum houses more than 280 notable vehicles. These range from a 1875 steam carriage to famous cars from the silver screen.
A host of walking and cycling opportunities await in the New Forest National Park. You can visit attractive villages including Lymington and Brockenhurst, spotting wild ponies on the way.

As a disabled Blind person the staff could not have been more considerate and helpful (which unfortunately we have not always found this to be the case elsewhere).
The food was great. The room was super, with great views.
When we went to the Museum we were given a discount for being at the hotel and as a registered Blind person my wife (carer) had a free pass. Parking was easily accessible.

Very poor reception, no smile not particularly helpful. I have spinal stenosis and there were no chairs in reception. Very smelly bedrooms, everywhere smelt of dogs. Dogs every where even in the dining room at breakfast! Really horrid.

The offer of bed and breakfast at this delightful, historic hotel plus entry into the attractions at Beaulieu was very good value. Buckler's Hard is a very interesting and relaxing place to spend time.

The Master Builder's House, situated in the peaceful and historic setting of Buckler's Hard, is a special place to spend time. The rooms are very well appointed and comfortable with thoughtful additions such as bathrobes, slippers and good quality toiletries. Breakfast in the light and airy restaurant was delicious, and we had dinner in Henry's Bar. The menu is quite limited but the food was good quality and service was prompt and efficient.

Warm welcome on arrival. Cosy warm room. No decaf teabags and only 3 coffee pods in room. Restaurant overpriced with limited choice and almost empty. No ambience. Staff started clearing vacant tables of glasses, crockery and cutlery during our meal. A little like when eating at MacDonalds. The bar offered a good choice of food and a warm, buzzing friendly atmosphere. Staff serving the bar rushed through the restaurant with bar food. Not a good experience.

My husband spoke with Anna prior to our arrival to arrange for a bouquet of flowers to be in our room waiting. She went above and beyond. Our daughter also requested a bottle of prosecco for us with Anna who again arranged this also together with a card not only from our children but also one from the hotel and staff wishing us a happy anniversary.

Requested a shower as my wife struggles with bath. The ensuite was unacceptable with an old bath, cracked wc and damaged basin.
We were offered a small inferior room without a waterfront view and broken tv which we refused. We had no choice but to stay in the original room. The restaurant was overpriced plus 12.5% service. Checked out after only one night.
We are really upset as was our golden wedding andthe hotel did know this. The hotel has refunded but it doesn't compensate for ruining our golden wedding treat.

Super location, informative and helpful staff. Dined at Riverview restaurant which was lovely, excellent menu. River view rooms are apparently undergoing refurbs two at a time next Spring which is needed. The overall character and history of the hotel is super but refurb improvements would make the stay even better.

Good value for money. Lovely location. Staff were friendly. Lack of attention to detail in the restaurant and serving staff were inattentive due to one set of customers being demanding. My dessert was a disaster but was quickly removed from the bill. However aside from that, an enjoyable stay.

My only adverse comment, and this applies to many hotels, I wish they would provide soft fluffy duvets or replace them when they become hard and compacted. Also there were insufficient usable power points in the room and none by the bed.

No telephone in room to reception.
Restaurant was very good but the Henry Pub floor was not cleared. Lights/lamps very dusty. My glass of wine was not clean, but was replaced upon speaking to staff immediately without question.
Food good but as I say attention to detail ie cleaning could have been a lot better.

Great one night break at a hotel that we fancied made even more attractive by Travelzoo offer. Stayed in a nice Henry Adams room. All very good except that the bathroom possibly rather small and possibly a little dated. We dined in the restaurant where the menu offered a reasonably good choice and the food was well prepared and presented. Service uniformly excellent. Friendly and efficient. The location is unique and steeped in the history of the building of wooden fighting ships. Wonderful views across the Beaulieu river and lovely 2+ mile riverside woods walk into the very picturesque Beaulieu itself. We will return.

We had visited before but it was a long time ago and don't remember details - although certainly on one occasion we were in the main house. So we were a little surprised that the Henry Adams wing was all hard flooring, which was a little cold underfoot, particularly in the morning! It gave the room quite a basic feel, which isn't the impression the hotel gives. However all the staff were lovely, and the dinner and breakfast were both excellent.

Food was exceptional, staff were great. Rooms, lovely decor, bed and bed linen wonderful quality. Issues with room were noisy as we were overlooking carpark and cars coming/going until 3am; in the more we were woken at 7am as bin store and linen trellises were in the carpark and the staff needed access to them so crashing and banging about. The weather was hot so we had bedroom window open, noise may not be an issue in winter if room window closed.

We enjoyed a delicious meal in the bar. Quite pricey but very good food nicely presented.
I always think its a shame when you order a meal and then have to pay £6 extra for some potatoes! It seems most people would want more than a piece of fish on its own, so I'd sooner the price was built in, but perhaps that's just me! Overall though a most enjoyable experience in a unique setting.

Room was small and very hot. The breakfast was fabulous, first class. The location was very picturesque. Unfortunately we weren’t able to have a hot shower due to a plumbing problem which we were told about before we arrived, but thought surely it would be sorted within 24 hours. After it was fixed we still couldn’t shower, only to find there was a switch outside marked towel rail that you had to flick in order to have a hot shower. This wasn’t explained!!! The staff on reception were blatantly rude, when attempting to check in earlier, before being advised to return at 2pm. Which when did immediately confirmed the room wasn't ready without even checking. Like everyone else I suspect we were told to return at 3pm and when there was then a substantial que the staff openly complained about everyone turning up at the same time. Totally unwelcoming pair of ladies. Also when staying in a 3* hotel you would expect to pay 3* prices at the restaurant. The food and drink was at best average but cost more than the nights stay. Unacceptable in my opinion as only had main and dessert with a couple of glasses of wine.
