We have stayed at Burnham Hall Hotel before. It is very handy for visiting York and places nearby. The rooms are very well set out. The food and drinks very well priced. It is exceptional value for money with tickets to the Bird of Prey Centre next door included.

My expectations were low due to the price but I couldn’t have been more wrong. We upgraded to a suite but as only there for 2 nights we didn’t use the sitting room much so probably would try a standard room next time we visit. The staff were very friendly especially the dining room staff and the food was very good. The bar area is very small but we didn’t have a problem getting a table. There is a huge games room where you can sit with a drink but the air conditioning was too cold for us to sit there. The rooms are not attended to unless you request it by 11am on the day. It is a 40 minute walk to a bus stop to go into York centre so we drove to the park and ride and got the bus into the centre.

I wish it was nearer to a bus stop to go into town but this would not deter me from staying again when an offer comes through

We booked on a Travelzoo offer so it was decent value. The rooms were a little tired. The food in the restaurant was very good, although breakfast was not too good. Not enough choice or quality tbh. no pastries, no fresh fruit, only fruit salad which was mainly apple slices. Cooked breakfast was bland and basic. Ollie serving in restaurant was very good - engaging with all customers with wit and charm. Ops manager Eddie was very professional and has potential.

The bird of prey centre is so much bigger than we expected. The cream tea was delicious.

Other Comments
The standard rooms are dated & small, the single beds in the twin room are narrow but for the special discounted rate where still excellent value.

Yes we liked, the dining room, where most of the original features have been retained and the very convenient location of the hotel.
Other Comments
Our room was awful : it was dirty with dead insects on window sill, dusty bedside tables and ceiling ; tea/coffee had been thrown onto 2 of the walls, with disgusting splash marks running all the way down; the 3 minute table lamps were not up to the job, it all looked very grim and rough. No tissues, no bottled water in the room.
The bathroom was even worse, dirty ( floor and area surrounding the wash basin smeared with all sorts of marks ) and the fittings left a lot to be desired. Everything looked old, outdated and in need of some tlc.
The food served served in the restaurant was mediocre, very limited choice - the chips on our first night were inedible, and the constant loud music blaring out of the speakers certainly did not help ! -
On arrival the young lady on duty at the reception desk had the charms of a prison warden, no welcome message and getting information out of her was hard work.
The bedrooms are all located in the extension part of the hotel, which from outside looks like a block of council flats or student accomodation.
All told a very disappointing experience, not quite the birthday treat I was expecting !
As regular Travelzoo users this is our very first "bad" experience, we have always been extremely pleased and impressed with your hotel selection. The Burn Hall Hotel is definitely not to be recommended.
