- Head into the nearby Lake District National Park for a longer ramble. The villages of Lakeside and Newby Bridge at the southern tip of Windermere are both less than 15 minutes' drive.
- Pretty Cartmel is a maze of lanes and bridges crossing a little river. This historic village is 10 minutes' drive away. You can visit the 900-year-old priory church at its centre.
- You can find sandy beaches suitable for bathing and watersports nearby. One of the best is Roanhead beach, around 30 minutes' drive away.
