We was upgraded to a suite, which looked lovely but unfortunately the radiators were not working, we was then moved to another suite but there was damp and a damp smell in the room and the carpet to the side of the bed was wet to the touch, the bedroom radiator was also not working. We remained in this same room because I didn't want to move for a third time and just wanted to unpack and go out and enjoy Liverpool. I informed reception of the radiator problem on our way out that same evening. We also reported the state of the room on leaving in the morning. It is not healthy to be breathing in damp whilst asleep and we both felt a little short of breath the next morning. To be honest I wish we had just been put in the original booked room. Thank you

we had a really good time. The hotel was in a great location and the staff were nreally helpful. We were thrilled to be upgraded to a suite. The decor was a little shabby but not too bad. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The room was well equipped and comfortable. The view from our room of the Liver Building and River Mersey was an unexpected pleasant surprise. Staff were polite and helpful.

Our only complaint was with the restaurant at breakfast time which was understaffed. This resulted in time for the staff to replace glasses, cups, bread, milk and cereals etc. On our last day we had to clean our own breakfast table. I would like to stress this was not the fault of the staff who were working very hard, they were just to few in number to meet the demand of the number guests using the restaurant at the time.
The food choice and selection was good.

The reception staff were very helpful and polite. The hotel is very nice, clean and very convenient for the local attractions and shopping. We stayed in a Privilege Room and it was very comfortable. My husband and I would stay again but not with breakfast . The breakfast was disappointing.
Other Comments
The buffet breakfast was not well organised, we were told that when seated at your table if we wanted eggs or mushrooms we had to put your hand up to notify a member of staff. there must have been a shortage of staff because it took for someone eventually to come and take our order for eggs and it took them at least 20 minutes to bring them to us. We had to also ask for cutlery and napkins. The quality of the food was not good considering it was a four star hotel. The fried eggs were very oily and the hash browns were over cooked. A buffet breakfast should mean that every thing is put out together so that you do not have to wait. I myself stayed with the cold breakfast for the rest of my stay, we were not the only guests that complained at reception.

Having had a full day in Liverpool on the day that we arrived at the Hotel (Sunday) we were informed that the restaurant was closed so not wishing to go elsewhere we decided to have something to eat in the bar. My Partner and I stayed at the Hotel with two friends. The location was brilliant. We welcomed by a charming young man and registration was smooth and speedy, the staff very friendly and helpful and the complimentary drink was a nice touch, we enjoyed it on the balcony adjacent the bar. We had a wonder room with lovely clean sheets. The problem was the breakfast, the hotel cut corners by buying cheap bread and cereal and the dishes for the cooked breakfast were small and items were not replaced immediately when they ran out, the staff in the dining room were brilliant and tried their best to help things run smoothly. I think Management need to look at this and be present during service.

We would like to commend the staff. Everyone we dealt with were extremely friendly and took time to chat. Shout out to Graham in the restaurant who was exceptional and even gave us a potted history of the church next door. We were told that if there was anything at breakfast that wasn't available to let them know and they would have the chef make it.
One small point, there was no information sheet in the room. We had no idea what time breakfast was or even where the restaurant was. There were no signs anywhere. I think an information pack should be included in the room explaining the hotels facilities.

Easy to find the hotel and to arrange parking. We used the NCP Capital one just around the corner but there is also hotel parking. The only negative aspect of the whole trip was the first receptionist we met who really had a couldn’t care less attitude and even though it was 5pm when we arrived wanted to make us wait for a specific room to be ready. Luckily she was overruled by a much friendlier and more helpful colleague and we were given a lovely Privilege room with an amazing panoramic view of the waterfront and the Liver building. All other staff we met shared the same positive friendly manner as the second receptionist and couldn’t have been more helpful. Huge comfy bed and nice breakfast. This was a great value trip and Liverpool is amazing for a weekend break.

Best thing about the hotel is its location next to waterfront. Amazing view of Liver Building from room. Was initially assigned wrong room type and had to revisit reception to have this changed. Room was bit dated and in need of refurb, which could be said of for the rest of the hotel. Breakfast a bit chaotic - items running out in buffet took a while to be replaced. Overall a pleasant experience at this hotel but what let it down was the breakfast.
The food was pretty average and the selection from the cold buffet was varied. However the cooked breakfast was extremely disappointing mainly due to their not being any mushrooms or black pudding and what was on offer was cold. If you wanted an egg that wasn’t scrambled I was told to ask one of the waiting staff. This seemed a ridiculous arrangement as all the staff were busy. I managed to ask a staff member for a fried egg, this duly arrived 10 minutes later swilling in olive oil after I had finished my breakfast. Breakfast was served until 9.30am, we got there at 9.10am.
This hotel needs to improve how they serve their breakfasts.

We artived 30 minutes early but they wouldn't let us check in without joining some sort of club which with the staff members limited English would have taken 30 minutes to fill the firm in anyway. The breakfast was awful. They had cleared the buffet away by 9.30 despite breakfast running until 10am. They said they would cook guests food to order but mine was definitely just the old buffet stuff warmed up. We went out and ate elsewhere on the second morning despite the pre paid offer. Also there was no information about hotel services or the local area in the hotel and no phone in the room. None of the windows opened so the atmosphere was very dry and artificial.

From check-in (with the very helpful Kieran) to check-out, I was very happy with my stay at the Mercure. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had a great superior room on the 10th floor with fantastic views of The Royal Liver Building and Mersey. The room was clean, spacious, and had everything that we needed. The hotel is in a great location - walking distance to the docks, concert arena, shops, and bars and restaurants. Breakfast was included as part of the Travelzoo offer and was perfectly fine. Check in was 3pm. We eventually got our room at 4.35pm. We were offered a free drink as compensation - couldn’t choose - small house wine or nothing, served in dirty glasses that we had to return, at a filthy table I had to clean myself with wet wipes. Nice room with very good view but couldn’t see three quarters of it as windows were very badly condensed so could only see out of one pane.

Good size room with comfy bed.
Noisy AC in room - had to turn it off most of the night.

Great views of harbour and Liver building but windows dirty on outside with condensation in between. Bathroom a bit tight but well equipped. Liked the toiletries provided - even had hair conditioner. Breakfast was ok. Location ok but not that central and far from bus/train station. A mixed bag but not worth the full price.

Reception and staff in general were very friendly and helpful and we had a lovely room (914) with great views over the Mersey and The Liver Building. Welcoming, well placed for attractions. Breakfast satisfactory, but they dont cope well with the coach bookings. Bar satisfactory but a bit unwelcoming, startling.

You need to better manage your coach bookings, particularly when they arrive at breakfast on-bloc because thetare off on day trips. Food runs out very quickly and due to your small serving dishes it means choice disappears. On 2 days we learnt quickly but food starts becoming scarce are 8.50ish despite breakfasts advertise for an hour or more. We managed, but one morning was particularly poor

The Mercure Liverpool is in a good location. The hotel is a little tired in places and the bed was very lumpy and uncomfortable. They are obviously short of staff to service rooms so could not get into our room on time but this was dealt with ver well by the desk staff with giving bar vouchers and allowing a later checkout. Our bags were also looked after so we could walk around the dock and come back when our room was ready. The hotel has its own car park, but the explanation of where it is, is nor particularly clear. Our bathroom had no hot water both mornings we were there. The location of the hotel is excellent, and all the staff were very helpful. The room was quiet, with an excellent view (despite the dirty windows!) and the bed comfortable. With the above reservations, I would recommend this hotel.

Great location. The hotel is perfectly placed for whatever your stay is going to encompass. Its right on the side of the Mersey, it is a short walk into the City centre, the Liverpool Echo Arena is a short walk away along with all the Beatles stuff right on your doorstep. There is a dedicated carpark, £10 per night, which is just around the corner, but it is busy as it is open to the public as well, but there is also an NPC also just around the corner so theres plenty of parking.

We had a great value stay just across from the port where our cruise ship left from. The room on the 10th floor had a great view of both the Liver Building and the river spoilt only by the poor visibility caused by blown and dirty outer glazed windows. The breakfast buffet service was slow seemingly due to lack of staff. We were not given the voucher for the Prosecco which was included in the deal - apparently this should have been given to us on check in.

The only downside if any was the breakfast as you have to ask for mushrooms, fried eggs and the other items where only in small serving tins and quickly ran out. We asked for some items but by the time they came out we had eaten everything else so a plate of mushrooms on there own not ideal. This is not a deal breaker as we have booked to come back.

When we arrived for our two night stay the young lady in reception advised she only had a one night booking. My confirmation said two but when I checked my banking app I had only been charged for one, it wasn’t a problem for us to pay for the second night but if someone had budgeted funds for their trip it might be an issue.
It is a stunning (if a little tired in places) and imposing hotel in a beautiful city, we would have no hesitation in returning during future trips south. We had a lovely room (1014) overlooking the Liver building the Nespresso machine and the shower screen both leaked but these have been notified and I have no doubt, rectified by now.
The staff were without doubt amongst the friendliest we have experienced, especially those in the dining room!

Hotel was in a great location. Unfortunately, it is very tired and no longer a 4 star quality. The room was very small. The decor was tired. The view would have been amazing from the windows, but they were so dirty and misty you couldn't see through them. There were clean sealed double glazed windows on the room side . But the outer windows (on the inside) were the problem. Also the sealed gap between the windows were very mouldy. I know this would not be a problem as the inner units were sealed but it doesn't look very good when you look at the windows from the inside. Unfortunately, they didn't have enough staff on the first day for breakfast. Lots of uncleaned tables and the food took time to be replaced. So lots of queues and unhappy guests, who had to clear a table of dirty dishes before they could sit down. But the breakfast food was nice and a lot of choice for the cereals and fruit. The house keeping staff were very helpful, as we asked for extra milk and hand towel.

The fact they changed booking to family room without any problems

can I just say I wanted to put what I liked about the hotel first as the staff were amazing and could not do enough to help, that is easily the most important thing. The room was very cramped and dated especially for a family, but much appreciated the fact that we were upgraded at request without extra charge. We were placed next to young adults who were there rightly so to have a good time, this did not go well with family rooms when quietness is needed post 11pm, although the staff tried their very best to resolve the issue unfortunately it is what it is and all of us had very little sleep the next day. On arrival at the hotel we could not check in at 2pm and were told we would have to wait until 3pm as there was a hold on the room, so we had to leave all out luggage downstairs and try to check in at 3pm but were still unable to, which was very annoying as people who were arriving without rooms booked, were going straight up to their rooms, we had booked a few weeks previous, so disappointing our rooms were not sorted efficiently, the check in staff were very apologetic though. We ended up going out for food and then coming back at 5pm to get our luggage and room cards.
Breakfast for vegan/vegetarian guest very disappointing, there were no sausages, no yoghurts, even for people who have dairy, as they had run out, poor selection of fruits etc. I did not specify vegan on booking as most places do have vegan breakfast foods usually, so lesson learnt for me.
It was an amazing deal price for the location, but I have got to say not up to usual Travelzoo standards as these are usually so high, I have never had to complain before about anything as the deals are always 10/10 just sadly not on this occasion

Our room was on the tenth floor with a fantastic (potential) view over the Mersey and Liver building unfortunately badly obscured by bad condensation between the windows and secondary glazing. There was also considerable black mould between the glazing and secondary glazing which was quite unpleasant! Our friends were in the same location a floor below where this wasn't a problem at all. Maintenance must be difficult and expensive at such a height but it does need rectifying to allows an 'proper' view of such an iconic area.

The ROOM LOCATION
Other Comments
As seems to be the norm with hotels at the moment, there is a lack of staff. So obviously the service provided is below the standard expected , yet hotels still charge the same fees when in all honesty they know that they cannot provide the service expected. This is no reflection on the staff that they do have , they are trying their best. For example , we were a group of 4 and when we came down for breakfast at approx 9 am. There was not one table available, apart from the tables in use the remaining tables had not been cleared or cleaned ready for the next guests.

The restaurant was more a bar with a limited menu but a good view. I didn't rate the mushroom risotto which, when asked, came with grated cheddar cheese.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the reception staff having the common sense to pull a colleague from the back to reduce the Check-in queue.
