The Swan Hotel has hosted many illustrious guests down the centuries. These include King Henry VII, Ramsay MacDonald, Winston Churchill, and author George Bernard Shaw. More recently, it was used as a filming location for the movie "Hot Fuzz".
The hotel has a wood-panelled restaurant, a bar, and a lounge. The outdoor terrace adjoins the cathedral green. There's also a gin bar with more than 100 varieties in stock. Bedrooms are "stylish and comfortable", according to The AA.
Wells is set at the foot of the Mendip Hills National Landscape. Wookey Hole Caves are 10 minutes' drive away, while Cheddar Gorge is 20 minutes' drive. Bath, famed for its Georgian architecture and Jane Austen connections, is 40 minutes by car.
