First impression was we thought it was a care home !!
Check in took ages, nobody available.
We paid an extra £15 per night for a ‘superior’ room and under no circumstances could the room we were allocated could be termed superior. The bed was a standard double, the bathroom was antiquated, the wardrobe had a makeshift lock, one could boil the kettle or watch television due to only one socket available, overall far less than satisfactory. The housekeeper showed me three other rooms but none were up to standard. We decided to stay due to the inclement weather.
We checked out the next morning . We explained our early departure to reception.
A complete waste of time, energy and money.

A two night stay was booked as a Christmas gift for me and my husband. We upgraded our room to the deluxe double for an extra charge, but it was really worth it. Hotel set in stunning location, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Our room was stunning and we ate in the restaurant on the Saturday night and the food was lovely. Really relaxing time away.

Set in a magnificent setting, this beautiful building, next to a lake & parklands, offers a compact, clean, warm room with en-suite. All staff are friendly and helpful , really good value for money. Close to Swindon & Cirencester. Only downside, menu limited & not changed since September & no Sunday carvery either time we visited although advertised as every Sunday. Cream tea excellent, afternoon tea looked superb.

Please share all the above comments with the hotel. We were delighted with both visits & would definitely go again.

The room was the size of a single bed. No room for us to move around. We were in the new extension. Not the main house. The entrance was not as per the advertised photo. The room was cold because the radiators were switched off. It took the rest of the evening and night to warm up. We complained to reception and they just turned on the radiators. The conservatory for the afternoon tea was cold. The dining room for the dinner was cold. Not sufficient heating.

Generally a comfortable hotel in a beautiful setting. We were a little disappointed that the restaurant didn’t feel very cosy, especially at breakfast. The breakfast was entirely self service which we understand, but the hot drinks could have been served at the table instead of from a machine.
Other Comments
We thought that the hotel used plastic flowers and plants too much, especially when there are flowers in the garden. We would have liked to have a drink in the bar before our evening meal and a coffee afterwards. No service or heating in the bar at that time.

The extractor fan in our room wasn’t working. We reported it to reception who confirmed that it wasn’t working and that one had been ordered. We kept the window open as the room felt as if it needed airing but if the extractor fan isn’t working then moisture is being held in the rooms.

The hotel is in lovely surroundings but far from any town or village and not much to do there. You'll need a car to go further afield to find some entertainment.

The breakfast was chaotic. It was a help yourself buffet but they were constantly running out of different things and queues were forming. When they topped up the food the newly cooked food was put on top of the old therefore everything underneath was getting cold. Although breakfast is until 10am if you came down at 9.30 there was not much left and it was cold. I was told they wouldn't be topping up as breakfast was nearly finished. There was 1 slice of bacon and 2 sausages left for two of us. The room was very small, we had to squeeze past each other to go to the bathroom. The bathroom however, was almost as big as the room! A nice shower and it was all very clean.

Size of room obviously should be a single plus the fact of only 1 large and 1 small towel provided.
Booking dinner the times we wanted was difficult both nights we were told 6pm only time available although eventually we were given the times we asked for. The first night there was no rushing us to eat our two courses & it was only after we finished the restaurant filled up.
We have not as yet had dinner second night
The food quality was hit & miss I did complain & was not charged.

The ‘cosy’ double offered on Travel Zoo is tiny. Fortunately we realised before booking and paid for the upgrade. The ‘superior’ double is like a standard in most other hotels, but the ‘Executive’ double was much much bigger and a nice room. There are no room pictures on the travel Zoo info, We had to find this via other websites and the hotel’s website. This seems rather misleading of the hotel.
My scone was frozen in the centre. It was replaced quickly with an apology.
Breakfast was much better and ran more smoothly on the days that the restaurant manager was present. On Tuesday, there was no fruit. The orange juice was cheap, coffee machine produces cheap, weak coffee. The cooked breakfast was good however and plentiful.
There weren’t many things to do in the local area, most activities involved driving half an hour. Staff couldn’t tell me about a walking route to Highworth, I later found the footpath sign; we went to two National Trust properties- Chedworth Roman Villa and Buscot Manor, but found no info in the hotel about these superb places.
The hotel lawns and gardens needed cutting and weeding! It was sad to see the neglect of such a fabulous property.
You get what you pay for. It was a good value deal that we did enjoy, but I wouldn’t go back.

It's a lovely looking building but the outside gardens are a mess. All weeds. Very nice staff trying their best.
Other Comments
Standard room very small. Barely 1.5ft on one side of bed. No space for cases. Fan in bathroom not working and full of dust. Both drawers in chest of drawers broken so difficult and noisy to open/shut.
"Cream tea" was a very peculiar scone with cream and jam. Very doughy. Fried eggs at breakfast like rubber. Fruit salad was mostly chopped apples in orange juice. Ornamental shelving still has stickers A B C to show how to construct. In evening no effort made to look any different from the morning canteen effect. A tablecloth would have been nice. Evening meal nice but service very slow between starter and main. Absolutely no atmosphere anywhere. Very few places to sit and relax.

The hotel is immaculately clean and well maintained, with friendly and welcoming staff who all seemed happy to work there. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant in the evening because we wanted to try the delights of Swindon, but the cooked breakfast at the hotel was very good, with nice fresh pastries and regularly replenished hot dishes. The scone and cream tea we had on arrival on our first day was super and much enjoyed. Our twin bedroom (which cost an extra £15.0 per night) had tea and coffee making facilities, and a mini fridge, and biscuits and water, as well as room for comfortable chairs, which was all lovely. The beds and bedding were very comfortable, and the only noise was other guests opening and closing bedroom doors and talking in corridors. Otherwise, it was very quiet and peaceful, because the hotel is surrounded by beautiful grounds away from main roads and the hotel's car parking is well away from the sleeping areas. The dining room is clean and functional, bright and comfortable. We enjoyed walking in the neighbouring Stanton Country Park which abutts the hotel grounds.

The hotel is a good base for exploring the Cotswolds and the historic sites of Wiltshire like Avebury and the white horses.
