Why We Love This Hotel
- The Mulberry Inn is a dog-friendly property in the village of Llwynmawr.* It's surrounded by picturesque Welsh countryside.
- The gardens and outdoor decking have views of the valley. The Pheasant Bar in the original 18th-century part of the property has beamed ceilings and a log fire.
- Medieval Chirk Castle is less than 15 minutes' drive away. One of many fortresses on the Wales–England border, it's open from March. However, the extensive grounds and gardens are open year-round and offer impressive views.
- Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is 15 minutes' drive away. This 126-foot-high engineering marvel can be crossed on foot or by narrowboat.
- "Fabulous" (Rough Guides) Llangollen is a 20-minute drive from the inn. From there, trek north for the remains of Castell Dinas Bran. Or, take a canal boat westwards to Horseshoe Falls.
- You could also hop aboard a steam train on the Llangollen Heritage Railway. It runs 10 miles through the Denbighshire countryside to Corwen.
* The best route to The Mulberry Inn is to travel via Chirk, which also avoids narrow mountain roads. The hotel instead suggests taking the B4500 as far as Dolywern and turning off to Llwynmawr.

Additional details:
The best route to The Mulberry Inn is to avoid Llangollen and travel via Chirk which also avoids going over Welsh mountains; a sat nav may take you unnecessarily on these narrow roads so, the hotel instead suggests that Travelzoo members take the B4500 main road as far as Dolywern and then turn off to Llwynmawr.
Expect the bar to be open from 2.45pm to 11pm everyday.
The house bedding is duck down - if you'd prefer synthetic bedding, please contact the hotel well in advance and at least 48hrs ahead of your stay.
Food takeaways and deliveries are not permitted at the hotel and personal foods should not be eaten in public areas.
Dinner reservations can be made at check in and then again on a daily basis. Dinner is served 6pm till 8pm.
Most rooms are on the first floor reached by one staircase; help with bags is always available on request.
The doors are always locked by midnight; no late keys can be made available.

Hard to fault it, the staff, bedrooms and food all excellent. The staff were all very friendly, the bedrooms a good size and spotless, the food was above expectation. It's a small hotel which retains the feel of a family run business and goes out of it's way to make guests welcome.

Fabulous Inn set within a delightful, albeit slightly remote, valley.
ALL the staff were absolutely first class with better attention to Customer service than many I have encountered in far more expensive establishments across the U.K. and indeed Europe.
Breakfast and Dinner were both excellent, the Sunday quiz was a good laugh with the first prize in perfect keeping with the fun of the evening.
All in all a perfect place to relax and enjoy.

This is a wonderful hotel, I can honestly say it was the nicest hotel experience we have had, and we travel quite a bit. The hotel is in an amazing location with the mountains to look from our room. The whole place is well looked after and obviously loved. The room was spotless, with the best stocked mini bar and generous free biscuits and water and nice coffee.
The sitting room was cosy with decent furniture and the dining room was lovely.
All of the food was excellent, well cooked and generous. The staff ere very well presented and very friendly and helpful . The only minor boggle was that the pillows were a bit flat but if we had asked to change I’m sure we would have been obliged.
All in all a great visit

A lovely, comfortable room with everything we could wish for available. - We chose a larger double room. The food was delicious and plentiful and the staff were excellent. We joined in the Sunday night fun quiz held in the cosy bar and funds raised supports the Sir Ambulance charity. Our stay was most enjoyable and we wouldn’t hesitate to return.

We had a very comfortable stay at the Mulberry Inn. The room was large and warm and the bed extremely comfortable. Moreover the food was out of this world. We enjoyed every morsel of both the evening meal and the breakfast.
This was our second stay and the experience was just as good as for the first stay. We will be back!

There were lots of thoughtful touches - mini bar, complimentary water and flapjacks in the room; 'smoothie of the day' at breakfast; leaflet detailing walks from the doorstep, nice toiletries from a very deserving supplier that employs adults with learning difficulties plus emergency toothbrush and toothpaste kits should they be needed.

Beautiful small hotel in lovely countryside. I booked a king size room which was perfect for our stay. Lovely comfortable bed and large bathroom with huge freestanding bath and separate walk in shower. Everything was spotlessly clean. Food in the restaurant for both breakfast and evening meal was excellent and the service throughout from all of the staff was top class. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

I was expecting a high standard stay, but our expectations were greatly exceeded. Our room was spotlessly clean and the beds were some of the most comfortable we have ever experienced in a hotel. The room was so well equipped for a luxurious stay nothing you needed was missing. The drinks and snacks provided were of an exceptional quality and variety, which together with the most reasonably priced mini bar we have ever seen puts this hotel way ahead of most others. All staff provided genuine hospitality making us feel truly looked after, they couldn't do enough to ensure that we felt at home. Location peaceful and scenic, beer and food excellent and reasonably priced with generous portions we are definitely going back and will tackle some of the walks that can be done direct from the hotel.

Lovely hotel, very high standard while also being cozy and friendly. Clean comfortable room with everything you could wish for (including gowns, slippers, an extremely well-stocked mini fridge). En suite shower room clean and modern. Our shower was not very hot and not very powerful, but hardly worth mentioning. Food glorious, wait staff attentive, friendly. At breakfast we were offered fresh made smoothies, delicious.

Lovely setting in the Welsh countryside. Room was very nicely presented, with tea and coffee provided and lots of nice biscuits to go with it. The bathroom had a large bath and also a large shower and lots of small bottles of shower gel in there. The staff were very good and the food in the restaurant was first class.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay. Beginning with the staff at reception who were friendly and helpful, to the dining room staff who couldn't do any more to make sure we were happy with everything. We stayed in Lloyd and the room, bed, pillows were comfortable . The only comment I would make would be that the shower temperature was not easy to adjust.
The service at breakfast and dinner was exceptional and the food was delicious. I have already recommended the Mulberry to friends.

Brilliant. The hotel was situated in a small village surrounded by beautiful scenery. It was an oasis of old fashioned charm, comfort and service. The bedroom was very clean and comfortable and was finished with everything you could wish for in a hotel from up market coffee and biscuits to his and hers toothbrushes. The bar quiz on Sunday evening was a delight and kept us entertained for a couple of hours. Alan, the owner was the perfect mein host and all the staff were excellent.

Spent three nights at The Mulberry Inn and enjoyed it very much. Lovely location looking over the valley and the staff were very attentive. The cosy double room was larger than expected with everything provided. Comfortable bed in a peaceful location. The dining experience was also a delight with plenty of options available. Would have no hesitation in recommending to friends and family.

Lovely staff, great service and excellent food. Our room was, as advertised, a little on the small side, but was also a tad old fashioned but perfectly adequate, given the good value TravelZoo offer.

Mobile phone coverage in the area is poor and the hotel internet is prone to dropping out, so not a great location if you need to be in constant contact with the outside world. Didn’t worry us too much, but it might for some.

Loved it. Only stayed the one night so was able to chill and enjoy their hospitality. Hotel was spotless. They have a cracking team working there who appear to really enjoy themselves. Management have really thought about everything to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Excellent quality food (loved the brekkie). The only downside that they cannot do anything about is that they are located too far from a town and there is nothing around the Inn that is walkable. It didn't spoil our stay though.

It is in a lovely setting but unfortunately we had bad weather so we couldn't make use of the gardens which would have been nice with the beautiful views.

Our second visit and after saying we thought our King room small we were told about a bigger room downstairs which we had this time and will definitely book that room again as it was quiet and had 2 chairs and very spacious and no stairs!Love all the toiletries and biscuits and the fresh milk in the fridge and the food very good and everyone so nice and friendly.We are looking forward to our next visit.Congratulations to the Mulberry

Typical Welsh weather did not spoil an excellent stay at this lovely hotel. Everything from arrival to departure was perfect. Our room was delightfully quaint but lacked nothing. The hospitality tray and fridge were the best we have ever had. The food was good , breakfast was exceptional cooked to order with delicious smoothies, The dining room is elegant with lovely views over the mountains and gardens. Staff are very friendly without being obtrusive. Altogether a warm and pleasant experience, despite the consistent rain.

Its easy to find if you go into Chirk and follow the B4500 to Dolywern, where there is a sign to the hotel. Lots to see and wander around in the vicinity. We will definitely be returning.

A lovely hotel with very amicable staff who were always there to assist. Quite a remote area good for walking but you would have to travel to visit any of the local attractions.

We were in a standard room which was very good with a few complimentary goodies which was great. The hotel probably needs modernising in some areas but it didn't spoil the overall experience.

Probably the best appointed and most thoughtfully planned room ever. Kettle, tea coffee, fresh milk, delicious biscuits, fresh water. Fan, extra heater, fridge. Really good hairdryer with the plug and mirror sensibly placed. Plus lots of clever storage. Not large, but brilliant in every other way. Knew in advance it would be a small room, but the facilities were a most pleasant surprise. Fun quiz every Sunday night too. Delicious breakfast, friendly helpful staff.

My wife and I enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Mulberry Inn. We had booked a king sized room which was on the ground floor. It was a lovely comfortable room with a king sized bed, very comfortable and well equiped. We stayed B&B with dinner included both evenings. The choice of food was excellent both at breakfast and evening meal. The staff were really nice and very helpful doing their best to accomadate my wifes food allergies. All in all we had a very pleasant stay and hope to go back in the near future.

We upgraded to a superior room, which was quiet, spacious and comfortable, with a nice view. The dinners were exceptional, beautifully presented and tasty. We appreciated being able to have a drink in the bar while our orders were taken, and being shown through to the dining room when ready. Breakfasts were similarly delicious, with a wide choice and perfectly cooked. All the staff clearly enjoyed working at the hotel, and were efficient and friendly.

We enjoyed the Sunday evening quiz and appreciated the honesty bar in the room, with drinks generally being of a reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Situated in such a beautiful setting where the staff are very friendly and courteous-nothing is too much trouble. There is a definite homely feel.We stayed here several years ago, had such a good time that we decided to take up the Travelzoo offer for a return visit, and weren’t disappointed as standards have stayed the same-if not better! An on site bar with a wide variety of drinks, meals and snacks is a bonus.

Breakfast in the morning was well presented and the staff dealt with any alternatives you would need. My partner described the hotel as a little gem. Everything about the Mulberry Inn is first class . Our room had a comfortable bed with soft down pillows. There was a great selection of drinks with a well stocked mini fridge with wine beer nuts and chocolates. Complimentary bottles of mineral water, oatie biscuits and shortbread. Plenty of toiletries and even toothbrushes, toothpaste and flannels in the large modern spotless bathroom.
The staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was excellent. Amazing variety of breakfast items.

I have one additional comment relating to the bathroom/shower.
This same comment applies to many other hotels and is simple to address.
When taking a shower there is nowhere, other than the floor to place the shower gel, shampoo or facecloth, a very simple and cheap fix, install a shelf.
I'm sorry, but I do not enjoy bending down in a slippery shower cubicle. (Posted by a seventy six years of age gentleman)

The staff were exceptional. Can’t praise them enough.
Everything great. Room was brilliant with lots of unexpected extras. Food was amazing, breakfast was the best we’d had at any hotel
We did 2 of the 3 walks directly from the hotel. The directions were spot-on and the walks were great.

Helpful and friendly staff nothing too much trouble, room was comfortable and clean, the evening meals are well cooked with good size portions. Breakfast good selection of fruits and excellent traditional breakfast, and not forgetting the good selection of beer in the bar.

The staff members were exceptionally friendly. I felt almost as if I was visiting at someone's home.

The food was very nice. I was quite surprised by the quality and variety. The room had everything I needed, all the extra touches were very much appreciated. Don't change a thing! The only thing, maybe is add a magnifying mirror in the bathroom.

First class service from the minute we walked in by all the staff. The food was amazing! Excellent dinner followed by an equally lovely breakfast with plenty of choice. We will definitely return. Huge thanks to Allan and all his staff as they provide a service second to none.

Lovely hotel, and so.much attention to detail. The best mini bar I've come across! Staff very professional and friendly, the room was spotless, with extra heating possibilities for those suddenly chilly nights. Superb and I will definitely be going back!
